hi all, i'm a novice track wannabee.
ive lost interest in track cars this season. my 265bhp 4x4 coupe pushing 15psi boost was exciting to begin with, but soon got boring.
I want freedom and speed.
I havent ridden since field bikes when i was a lad.
what should i start with, i havent bought a bike mag for years . ive got around 2K to start a project, this is just for the bike and some spares, will start saving for safety gear after xmas.
must be great handling, fast, easy to work on, abundant in spares - generally a good novice track day bike for a 12.5 stone 5ft10" bloke.
cheers, carlos ____________________ Benelli. Happy as a pig in cacky. |

Sorry but there is no mythical bike which will go fast as hell on a track, be light as a feather, cost £2000 AND coupe with having a big fatty sat on it
If there were i assure you we would all have one
You have to priotitise weather you want light handleing or real speed, both of course are inversly proportional to cost
I'd say that given your budget and physical size a 600 is the lightest handling sportiest bike you will find. The question needs only to be which one. There is very little overall difference betwean the bikes, certainly no difference the average car driver would notice. So it will likely be a case of what you can find locally to meet your needs.
Ebay is a good place to start looking for bikes, great for seeing what is out there and what the general price ranges are |

Also, do you have a motorcycle license as you'll need one to be allowed on trackdays or to get a ACU race license which won't be easy having only riden 50cc bikes 20 years ago. You're best off getting yourself a road bike and to be able to use the bike easily and well before going on trackdays. |
my uncle is teaching me to ride a sports bike, he's been tracking and roading for 30 years, where gonna buy/build a bike which i can ride on the tack. he reckons i dont need a licence, but do need to show i can ride. no mot, no tax, no lights.
i dont want to be a roader, i'll stick to 4 wheels. just want to ride on the track. i dont expect any medals next season, just wanna learn before i buy a bigger bike.
but i reckon getting formal road training is the obvious first step, and maybe buy a rs125 just to get used to riding before a full blown tack monster. ____________________ Benelli. Happy as a pig in cacky. |

just booked my 1 day CBT for saturday.
i reckon i'll take my DA early spring and potter round on a 125 til then - and in the mean time buy a track bike to work on.
would a light powerfull uprated 250 be better for me than a 600? bearing in mind it will be my first season? ____________________ Benelli. Happy as a pig in cacky. |
