Was just wondering as I seemed to have dodged the bullet on the GATSO that caught me on the way up to the Silverstone trackday the other week.

The law is that if you've been flashed by a speed camera, the Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) must be posted to the registered keeper within fourteen days of the alleged offence. So allowing for postal delays, if you haven't received anything within 17 days, you've probably got away with it except:

If your address details are not up to date with DVLA.

If you are not the registered keeper, as long as they posted a NIP to the person who is the registered keeper in time.

As long as they can prove they posted the notice within 14 days they are not responsible if the original NIP gets lost in the post. Rolling Eyes

If in 14 days you've not had an NIP then you're free. I've only been flashed the once but didn't get an NIP or done for it Thumbs Up

Interesting topic.

I think I've been flashed twice and never heard anything (both times on the North Circular (A406)).

Since I have had a car and the flash camera have been installed aI have probably been flashed about a dozen times, always in the Eastbourne/Brighton and surrounding areas ... and fortunately so far I have never received anything!!

Strange thing was that a friend of mine was flashed by the same camera, somewhere in shoreham/worthing (not sure exactly) only about a week before me and she got done for it!

Guess I have pushed my luck enough and really need to start to be more careful!

well there are quite a lot of cameras and the internals either have camera mechanism in them or not. Even if they have camera mechanisms the film might have run out so it takes photo's and nothing is recorded.

Oxfordshire only have 23 camera mechanisms for the whole county. As I was told by an officer of law during a speed awareness course they were running.

I went as a bystander and assessor of the course, not as a speeder.

The only cameras that flash and guarantee a picture are the digital cameras on the M25 western side by Heathrow and the M4 - M40 turn offs.

Got flashed ages ago when the things were first around.

It was on a dual carriageway 40mph limit, they put the camera just before the change to 60mph limit sign. I accelerated upon seeing the 60mph sign and got flashed, must have been doing around mid 50's at the time. I was side by side with a car in the outside lane who did exactly the same thing as me, never received anything though.

It may have been a fake, out of film or I could have been that it was because there were two vehicles in the picture. I'd just read an article in PB about the Police and their weapons too. It said at the time that the fakes flashed once and the real ones flashed twice, although there were some new fakes that flashed twice that had just been put out.

I looped back round and went and sat in the golf course car park next to the camera, just to see how many times it flashed. Didn't take me long to find out, it flashed about every two in three cars through there all doing the same thing as me. It flashed twice, I recon it was real enough and had just exhausted it's film. Must have been a right old money maker. It's not there any more, don't know if it was moved or destroyed, either way there was a strong case for both!

Ok, this is bizarre.

Having not got a NIP for the time I was flashed on the way to Silverstone, I've just this morning received a NIP for the 18th of September when I was on the way to the first aid course, when I don't have any knowledge of getting caught in a speed trap and have no recollection of any sustained bouts of excess speed.

Sad Confused

Appeal! Appeal!
maybe you should demand that the photo be shown to you, as you have assured yourself that you were not speeding that day.
might work, hope it does! Laughing
