So today I popped down to Infinity Farnborough (or The Motorbike Shop as they're calling it these days) and dropped off Mrs AngryJonny's SV, collecting her new XJ6N - all good. Very pleased all in all. (She's in Texas at the mo so couldn't see to it herself).

Only question is: the tax on the SV runs out in about 90 minutes. Naturally it's been signed over to the trader etc, but this is, I assume, going to take a week or two to go though. Is there anything I need to do to handle this awkward timing, or is signing over the V5 enough? Should I SORN it so that it's dealt with until the trader or new owner assumes responsibility, or is it out of my hands now?

Don't worry about it. You probably won't hear a thing but, if you do, presumably you have some sort of receipt from the transaction.

Yeah, I sort of hoped as much but thought I'd check. We've got invoices/recepts etc from the PX of her old bike and purchase of this one - and I guess one in every 365 bikes gets sold this way.

Cheers.

Bought my GS on SORN. Waited for the V5 to come back and then SORNed it online the same day.

On the SORN tool online, it told me that my bike's status was "not sorn - new keeper". So they had obviously identified that it was going to take a while for it to get re-sorned.

Roger reckons you get plenty of grace time though.

It's their responsibility from the date of transfer, just be clear that it's your responsibility to tell the DVLA about it - don't trust them to do it.
