I've got an FZ1 Fazer. It's half-faired. Although I love the power, the ride, the robot-sex looks, I've always thought it looked a bit puny up-front. So I want to put a full fairing on, which I can just buy as a unit from Yamaha, it seems.

Has anyone done this? My mechanic-skills stretch about as far as changing a battery. Is it just a 2-spanners-and-an-allen-key job as it looks, or is it going to cause me a world of pain I haven't thought of?

I assume as a minimum I'm going to have to move the front indicators and re-route the wiring a bit. I'm sure I can manage that but I don't want to get half way through and find myself having to remove the whole front end or cut holes in things.

I'm no expert, but from a look on google, you shouldn't have to remove the front end at all. It certainly seems like the whole lot just attaches to each other. Have you got mounting points on the bike for it? (I assume you need mounting points here of course).

It also seems like the Indicators should stay in the same place, just they'll attach to the fairing once it's on.

Well fitting the crash bungs (which will have to come off for this) basically invloved removing 2 engine mounting bolts and replacing them with larger ones. It looks like the fairing uses the same mounting point so I assume it'll come with its own bolts and spacers if necessary.

I'd expect it'll simply bolt on one side at a time and connect together at the bottom (though I may have to disconnect the indicators to feed the wires through - maybe even drill holes). What I don't want is to pay a few hundred quid for a fairing and have it turn up and require the engine to come off the bike to fit it or something.

Had a bit of a google search again.

Found this - https://www.fz1-forum.com/forum/gen-ii-how/6623-yamaha-gen-ii-lower-fairing-install-review.html

Hopefully it's helpful to you. Doesn't sound like it is *too* involved and difficult. Things on there that I expected (removing indys to attach to the fairing for example). Doesn't seem like the engine has to come out, though there is some fiddling with bolts it seems (it's described in the link).

Like I said, I'm no expert, but I can't see why this isn't a do-able job. And if it's what you wanna do, go for it Thumbs Up

Yeah, I found the same place after I posted. The scariest bit is going to be drilling the existing fairing because that makes it a non-reversible job in a sense. But it's under the lights so I'll probably risk it.

The fairing the guy on that site has used has holes for the turn signals whereas the picture on Yamabits has the signals poking out the front on brackets. I'd prefer the latter to be honest as it makes removing the fairings a bit easier for oil changes etc.

What I don't want to find though is I've got to start removing engine bolts or oil pan bolts to remove the fairing. I'd like to know if the fairing mounts to brackets that fit at these places, or bolts straight in.
