 Posted: 22:32 - 03 Apr 2012 Post subject: ZXR 400 + Ultimate Unleaded Problem.. |
 |
|
So basically, Iv had my bike up and running for a while and had no problems until today
The other day, muggins here bought ultimate unleaded instead of normal unleaded D: completely did not mean to but was not looking at what I was doing, next second, its too late
anyway
The final bit of unleaded in my tank burnt away and then the ultimate hit....
Bike gave a deep grunt sound, worse than normal
became less responsive and very unpredictable with the slightest throttle movement...
then just cuts out, will not idle :S
I did do an oil change today and oil filter as well but I was riding around my town and to the turpin which added up to about 12 miles?
and it was running better than ever, and the fuel mark was where about the ultimate started going in
Any idea on this matter????? ____________________ Ex: CBR 125 R 06', ZXR 400 96' (RIP), Bandit 650 06'

I tried the STP Fuel injector and carburettor cleaner ones in my GPz550 and it really had positive influence on the bike. Engine ran smoother, starts were better, engine temp was lower and the engine gave its power more ''cultivated''.
Well it was a 23 years old bike though, but I think that it's cheaper way with real effect on a bike instead of the premium, ultimate, V-power, whatever cool petrol. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

right
well Iv read all the posts, cheers for the heads up guys
Tbh with you, think I know what the mixture was on about
It buggered up on me the other day, started up fine after 15 mins, my mate had a similar problem on his old bike where the engine flooded over and became unresponsive and eventually stalled
Iv put it down to my carbs, as they still need proper balancing (yet to find out how/where to)
The ultimate unleaded I put in, even though has had misfortune on this account, actually put my mileage on a full tank from around 93 miles to approx 115 and still had around £2-£3 in the tank
Ill get my carbs sorted ASAP! as I know that unbalanced carbs does nothing good at all! and then maybe give it another go as I would love to see what its like
and CaNsA, cheers for the links man
I read them and I think it depends on the ZXR tbh, they are all very different over the years with mass alterations until the last few years, and depends on how its been treated
But cheers again for all the input guys (Y) very much appreciated ____________________ Ex: CBR 125 R 06', ZXR 400 96' (RIP), Bandit 650 06'

V-Power in the 125 = easier starting, with kickstart only that was a blessing. In the Daytona it makes bog all difference that i can feel and in the car it makes it feel very slightly more peppy and improves the mpg (it has twin lambda sensors and a knock sensor so it probably is adapting to the higher octane)
The SV had the biggest effect, no performance increase but it popped and crackled like mad on over-run, open can + the PAIR system made me grin like a loon |
