DR125 would be best for insurance and cost to run / buy etc. If I were you I'd be looking at something like this or perhaps an old 80s Jap Two stroke which are also dead cheep to buy and (in most cases) cheep to insure although slightly more expensive to run.

It really does depend on what your going to do, do you intend staying on a CBT for a long while or are you going to put in for your test soon?

If its the latter I would either recommend you buy something cheap like a CG125 or SR125 ride it for a few months or do what I did, use a training schools 125 and pass your test as soon as you can and by pass the 125 stage and move on up to a decent 500 or something, as these are not to heavy on insurance as you may think.

Or the former, if its a new bike as the CBR is the cheapest, but fastest and most to insure would be the Mito closely followed by the DTR and the DR.

Just my Penny Coin Penny Coin

Hi

If buying new and you want something cheap then I am afraid the CBR wins. However it is going to be fairly slow compared to the others (except the DR).

What do you want out of the bike?

All the best

I'd go for the cheapest decent 2 stroke you can get.

The DR and CBR are 4 strokes.
After that I'd go for the DT because it costs a lot less to crash (though hasn't quite got the looks or the speed of the mito).

I would also consider older 2 stroke sports bikes. With the change left over from a mito you could do your test and legally use the full power bikes, nevermind all the other advantages.

well because of the situation. Im going to do my 2nd year on CBT on a 125, then do my car licence and then I can always drive upto a 125cc bike. once ive got my feet back on the ground, college is out of the way etc, then im going to put in for my direct access bike test and jump onto a 250 or sumin
By the way, my dad used to have a blue and black DR125 2stroke.
any good?

Im not totally after the speed. LOL im not a speedhungry ped boy. Im after somthing that can ride well at 70ish which I wont have to thrash about. That way im covered in terms of reliability.
Also im after somthing what is going to be easy to ride because i have to travel 20 miles a day to and from college!

The thing is, you will be working the 4 stroke engine pretty hard to go along at 70. And to get it to that speed you will need to maximise each gear - If you change up to 5th a bit too early, you'll be asleep before it goes past 60.

Riding a 4stroke 125 will make you realise how much use revcounters are. I'm not sure how much more my CG125 will do, as at 65mph i can't hear the engine whatsoever Thinking

Hhhmm 17 and thinking of a Mito, you might struggle with the insurance on that. Really nice bike if you can afford one though, if you don't mind 2 strokes.

Take a lookie at the Hyosung GT Comet 125.

yea, I do like the DTR125. Its a nice bike.
Ive got a few mates with the mito who are 17 but I think they got the all inclusive deal from new.
The reason i want it to cruise at 70 is because on my way to college i have to go down bluebell hill (A229) and its a big hill. At the moment i can thrash my scooter to around 70 down the hill or if theres a international Derestricted lorry infront I can pin the clock which is about 80 Very Happy .
Whereas a 125 wont have to be trashed to get 70 will it, and so it will last better because I dont think my scooter is too reliable doing 70 - 80mph.
I do like the Mito and the DTR. So I think its going to be a toss up between them.
If i come off a DTR the plastics are white and blue throuout so a bit or autosol and it will look good as new. whereas a Mito is sprayed fairings which scratch easy.
BUT a mito can do 100 - 110mph. What can a DTR do (in reality)
about 80?
Hmmm I cant decide! Its poo! OR I cud go for the Italjet Dragster 172cc registered 125. They seem nice...
What do you think?

My money would go to a dt125 Thumbs Up
I am not sure about costs compared to others on the list but I love dt's, buzz about on the roads, ride a few light green lanes get all muddy any dirty, cool, and learn a bit of off road control, what more can you ask for, fun, lots of options to where you ride and by the time a big sports bike comes you will feel what the tyres are doing through your bum and feet courtesy of the good old dt and some mud Cool
did that sell it? Very Happy

Yea I think it did. I do like the DTR and I think I might get 1.
Are knobely tyres road legal?
And yes, Offroad is very fun, sometimes I take the old scooter offroad for a bit, but im VERY restricted to what I can do. But I CAN get up a steeper hill on me speedfight than my mate can on his Derbi Senda.
I think ill go for the DTR cos theres no way in hell Im gona insure a MitO!

Tyres wont really be a problem and most are legal to use, there are plenty of different makes about all with a different bias for off road/on road use, some of these have the knoberly layout as if to say, you just don't want to go for a really off road biased tyre, things may get a bit slippy when back on road. I think the tyres dts come with as standard are pretty ok good for on road and good for light off road work or at least this was the case when they come out the factory 10yr ago, I am not familiar with the newer model of dt but I expect not much has changed.

Are you saying what i think you are?
Even if you do your car test you still need a new CBT every 2 years, until you pass your bike test. You can only ride a 50cc with just your car licence if you got it before 1994 (or some time in the 90's cant remeber excatly when.)
