 |
|
Just wondering if anybody has any ideas on this. BT broadband, bt homehub 2.0
The broadband connection is driving us mad. It can be fine for a few minutes then it will drop. Sometimes using the windows diagnostic stuff sorts it, others a router reset sorts it and other times we have to turn the router off for a few minutes.
We've tried two different router both do the same. 3 computers/laptops, 2 phones and 2 ps3 all drop out at the same time. We've tired it in both the sockets because we thought it was the extension but it does the same on the master.
We've rung bt when it's pratting about. They told us there's no problem with the line on their end and that it must be the router.
Is it possible to sort ourselves or do we need an engineer out? ____________________ Current Bike- Suzuki DRZ400 SM K6

When did you get the line installed?
Does it correlate with the weather / time of day? |
Wasn't sure which it was but I've just plugged my laptop in via ethernet cable. It keeps dropping with that and wireless. So I think its the routers connection to the net.
The extension would be 8/9 years ago and the main socket i havent a clue lol it was there when we moved in 13 years ago.
I think it does. Seems to be fine when its warm and dry but it seems to dick about more in the cold and wet. I think there's a break in the cable or something like that but no one else will have that. ____________________ Current Bike- Suzuki DRZ400 SM K6

Dial 17070 option 2 for a quiet line test. Listen for a few minutes and see if there's static on the line. If there is report noise on the line as a normal fault; don't mention broadband or you'll go round the usual circus |

How's the router set up? As you got it? DHCP? Does switching it off always clear it?
Bit late now, but BT? I worked in ICT for the Fire Service and they handled 999 lines like they were consumer lines. Absolute joke. Line down? Ooo, we'll get an engineer out in a day ____________________ 'Allo! My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!

Never had any problems with our BT home hub, and its rammed behind the TV in the corner of the room in the living room, and i'm upstairs...
If you're getting signal problems on a laptop right near it then the router must be nuts, or interfering, try changing the channels around
What OS are you using?
I had a problem where my mums laptop couldn't connect to the router if the channel was set to anything above 10 and if the routers channel is on autoselect, it will automatically change channels and possible DC you
Rereading your post it seems that all of your are being dropped from the signal at once, seems like a dodgy router to me. Is the connection to the internet being dropped, or the whole connection to the router? ____________________ Fzr-600 1999 |

Spoke to Bt just. There's a fault on the line between the exchange and us. So he "fixed" it using his computer, it recconnected then dropped again. So he did what he did before and it seems to have sorted it for now, he's set it to be kept an eye on for the next 24 hours to see if the fault persists. Shame i had to threaten to stop paying the bill (even though i dont pay it lol) to get them to do something ____________________ Current Bike- Suzuki DRZ400 SM K6
