CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) or affiliated cards require the touchscreen test to cover the construction safety legislation, and generally some level of qualification.

There is an associate scheme CPCS (Construction Plant Certification Scheme), which I think affiliates with CSCS, all of which is run by the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board)

You may get off with an experienced worker's assessment in the use of the plant, but you will need to keep up a diary (which has to get signed off by someone competent), to demonstrate you have got enough hours in before renewal otherwise you need to be reassessed.

Most members of the major contractors group look for CSCS.

PASMA is for scaffold towers and the likes. There's more info at https://www.cscs.uk.com/ and https://www.cskills.org/supportbusiness/cardschemes/availablecardschemes/cpcs.aspx

It has been a few years since I managed sites, but these should be good starting points.

Now now, don't mock the afflicted.

Everyone has to have the retarded children in their hockey team from time to time.

God knows, he's probably a moderator on Mittychatforums.com.

Find me a farmer without them that gets work on a construction site!

It is all about arse covering in the current compensation culture - when someone gets hurt, the first question is how can you prove the plant operator was competent / knew better?

Cunnington, that CITB link is excellent. Following the category numbers takes you right to a list of exactly what I'm looking for.

Cheers a lot.
