I am preparing a document with regards to safety gear, things like how to choose a helmet and what equipment you should be looking for.

I'll need to be referencing reputable sources, for example SHARP Helmet Safety Scheme etc.

Do you guys know of any sources I can quote, or any statistics and examples that would be useful?

Thanks,
BB

Primarily to try and get better equipment provided. Arguing that a single brand helmet can't fit everyone, and buying one brand jackets and trousers (which dont fit) 's not acceptable as PPE.

To try & get better equipment provided by WHO exactly?

Are you a Pizza delivery rider?

By the company. And yes.

Commendable effort, but I believe you're wasting your time. If you want a policy change, the main consideration will be whether it's cheaper for them to provide gear than to get sued.

Then you're onto a loser before you start.

One of my 'biker' mates is a Barrister & we've discussed Pizza delivery riders & the problems they face many times over a shandy after a good ride out.

Don't be a malcontent & certainly DO NOT get yourself a rep' as a militant. If you're not happy with the T&C's of your employment then change jobs.

Pizza riders are actually quite an interesting subject if you get down into the nitty gritty realities of how the law applies to you, it is not nearly as simple as some might think !

We've already brought significantly more change in the last few months than I believe anyone else has even attempted let alone managed, and that was without too much of a battle.

We've got a lot of routes to try still and I reckon we can get a lot more results too, it's just a case of making sure we've got our arguments backed up with stuff.

I and many others genuinely believe that we can make a change, but if we don't at least we can say we tried. The arguments we've got sorted so far, they can try arguing but they don't have a leg to stand on.

If I was to do any sort of delivery for a pizza place, I'd definitely just wear my own kit. Regardless of what a boss said, my kit or no deliveries. I guess it's not all that easy though as it want be covered if you crash.

Nice of someone to try though, and I personally don't think you should be giving up the fight.

I do wear my own kit... but I had to fork out for it. One of the issues is they insist we wear certain things for safety purposes (therefore making them PPE), yet they won't pay for our stuff, the stuff they provide doesn't fit or isn't suitable...

Then don't wear it, get sacked, get stuck in via a tribunal.

More than legal requirement.

Helmet, gloves, boots, jacket, trousers.

They "provide" all but the boots, although I have never been asked what size helmet I need ordering (was told to "use one of the ones in the kit room") let alone anything else.

Go for it, you have absolutely nothing to lose.

I'm guessing you're at Uni' while you're doing this?

If you are, then you have lots to lose.

If you aren't, <shrugs> who cares.

Why would I have lots to lose if I was at uni but not otherwise?

Lol wut? They'd get a big laugh from me with that one. You'd have thought they'd know a little bit about motorcycle safety.

The ones who set the rules are upper management and don't have a clue about anything.

They would sooner send riders out knowing full well it's sheet ice on the roads (and risking a number of dropped bikes and possibly several serious injuries) than to stop delivering for the night. Managers have had massive pressure from THEIR managers to carry on sending riders out in such conditions (which I THINK is illegal under health and safety law, and would be tantamount to corporate manslaughter if someone was killed as a result)

Can your bosses, the ones who aren't clueless, join in the fight for some form of safety? Surely it would have a lot more weight behind it if you got them involved.

We're looking for one of those... Rolling Eyes

In all seriousness we're working on that, but I get the impression that they don't want to rock the boat.
