Right, at 17 i can go for a full licence with restrictions to 33bhp. is it worth it? and how much does it cost on average? what are my chances on passing? (consider me a moped expert.. but no experience with gears) thanks for your help

Yes it is worth it as you can ride bikes bigger than 125cc & 14.6bhp, you can use the motorways, you can carry pillions, your insurance is lower with a full license instead of just a CBT and you get your two year 33bhp restriction clock ticking.

The test itself costs £48 with the DSA, training costs depend on if you have your own bike to use or if you want to use one of theirs, iif you want intensive lessons (like DAS but for 33bhp license) or just a few lessons after having had a few months of riding on your own and then the test.

Moped will have helped as you will have general road sense etc, but time using the roads isn't always 100% good as it is time to get into bad habits (or habits they dislike in the test), so will need to get used to using a geared 125 and make sure that you're upto the general overall test standard.

Sorry to butt in on someone elses post but, i thought as soon as you turn 17 you still have a year on your cbt, (if you did it at 16) as it lasts for 2 years, so you can insure it, tax it and then your on the road? then after the cbt expires you take the test? im i right??

Yes. CBT lasts for 2 years, reguardless of age, or what bike you did it on.

You'd need to take your test just before it ran out though.

Yup, your CBT is valid for two years from when you do it, if you turn 17 in that time you are automatically then allowed to use up to 125cc and 14.6bhp without the need for doing another CBT. You need to do your test when your CBT is still valid as you need a valid CBT to be allowed on the roads, only time you're allowed on the roads without a CBT (or a full license) is when you're doing your CBT course.

It is worth gettig your full licence if you can afford it, which was my problem for a while.

bike: as much as you like, mine was a £50 scrapyard resurection (cost about £200 when on the road)

CBT: £85 - £100 depends where you go

Lessons(including use of bike for test): 2 hours - £45 X 4 (plus a lot of practice on my bike)

test: Practical - £50-ish Theory - £20-ish

writing all this down scares me a little (especially if you add the insurance Crying or Very sad ) hope it gives you an idea of the cost though.

It's the initial cost of getting on the road on a bike that scares a lot of people, but once you're up & running, it's a lot cheaper & more economical, e.g. better fuel economy than cars. Plus infinitely more enjoyable!! (except maybe when it's raining in the middle of winter Neutral )
