We've got two old crash helmets that aren't really safe to be worn any more and we're not sure what to do with them.
I'd heard hospitals always wanted old lids but our local one didn't, so does anyone have any ideas?

The fire station might be interested, I think they like to practice taking them off people.

Give them a ring, just not on 999. Wink

Hi

As well as the Fire Brigade you could try the local ambulance station.

All the best

I have a better idea..

Turn them upside down and support them with something or other so that they don't fall over.... fill with planting soil, put plants in, water plants.. job done Thumbs Up

You could try this guys:
https://www.resus.org.uk/ , they're at

enquiries@resus.org.uk

They teach life support courses to all medical professionals/emergency services, and may have use for your helmet.

Jon.

Use them to go shopping in ASDA. Look here https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=33286

I gave my old one to the ambulance station in my local hospital for their training. They seemed to appreciate it. Thumbs Up

I've used my old lid as a test rig for my A2 technology project, it's already 6 years old, was actually my dad's and had a nasty fall on it. Once i'm done with that, i might donate it to some emergency services.

Use the old helmets as part of a fancy dress costume. Build extra fibreglass onto the outside to make a cool scary helmet or pull the insides out and build onto the padding to get a nice close fitting mask. Not long until halloween you know. Wink

Some of my favourite uses

Sell it on eBay as worn by Valentino Rossi
Sell it at a Car Boot Sale
Use it to give pillions lifts
Put it on your head and dunt against a wall to simulate a crash
Offer it as a sacrifice
Use it as a football
Wear it up your jumper so you look pregnant
Saw it in half for "scientific purposes"
Jump up and down on it
Give it to St Johns
Give it to the RUC/Andersonstown rioters
Use it as a bong
Wear it to a rave....

Well I've been doing abit of testing with my old helmets, well just me throwing dumb bell weights at them and see how well they stand up.

Recently I have been putting the melon my mum bought at tesco's last week in them, theres only a few dents in it so far Laughing.

It will take a lot more than that. One bike shop owner used to use an old helmet for competitions. Anyone was free to hit it with a hammer. Break the helmet and you won something. Nobody ever won anything.

All the best

thats the best one i've heard, done that with one of my old helmets, works pretty good.

Or you could do what my brother did and stand in the garden with only boxers on and let 12 p1ss heads throw several eggs and lots flower among other stuff to make a human cake Laughing
