PostPosted: 19:18 - 08 Apr 2012    Post subject: Good Friday - Trip to the Isle Of Wight Reply with quote

Well, due to it being a bank holiday weekend and as usual I had no plans, I decided to see if anyone was up for a ride to the Isle of Wight.
Ended up going with MrJoolz and J.M. both of which I'm sure will update this thread soon!

J.M. and myself felt it was probably better him getting here on Thursday as he is from near Leicester, so set him up for the night.

On Friday, out of bed and downstairs for 8am, met MrJoolz and headed off towards Portsmouth.
After the M25 and pulling onto the A3, we decided we had to pull over as it was damn cold.

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(13).jpg

Grabbed a few quick drinks and then went on our way (after 15 minutes warming hands on exhausts Laughing )

Got to Portsmouth docks about 10.45, we were due on the 11am, but waited it out till the 11.30 sailing as nature was calling.

Once on the boat, we went upstairs to relax for the 40 minute journey Mr. Green

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(14).jpg

Once we arrived, we headed off from Ryde to Cowes...where we visited many times, thanks iPhone. Wink

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(17).jpg

Needed to fill up after the journey, so we headed off from Cowes to find a garage...after realising we were missing someone.
J.M's GS500 decided it didn't want to carry on and would rather sit there and not turn on. Laughing
Turned around, found J.M. and after he had fixed the bike we were ready to head off and catch up with MrJoolz.

Petrol seems quite expensive in the north parts of the IoW..

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(18).jpg

From there we headed off towards Totland, many nice roads through there!
Branching off, we headed down "The Avenue" towards a T junction for Alum Bay or Ventnor, we chose the latter.

Good choice as the view was amazing on top of the hill.

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(2).jpg

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(1).jpg

On the way to Ventnor through some really nice winding roads, we stopped at Blackgang Chine for a few minutes to clear the bugs from the visors!

Once we got to Ventnor, we saw that the parking standards were somewhere close to those of Stevie Wonder, and had to be a bit experimental!
Worth the ride though.. just for the following photos.

Some crazy ass waterfall :

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(4).jpg

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(9).jpg

A road I really regret not trying to go down.

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(3).jpg

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(8).jpg

The place where all my gym efforts would be wasted Mr. Green

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(6).jpg

The lunch that would make the Bandit cry on the way home from excess weight gain!

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(10).jpg

Couldn't quite finish it, but I did also have a bacon sandwich!

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(11).jpg

After the food we headed along towards Shanklin and then up towards Ryde as time was getting on a bit.

Back on the ferry, we parked up next to another bike, stuck the steering locks on and went to chill.

https://clover-fencing.co.uk/New/IOW%20(12).jpg

Totally knackered at that point, realising there was another 103 miles to go, we rested and were rudely disturbed saying we had unfortunately arrived back in Portsmouth.

Rolling of the ferry we rejoined all the motorways again and headed for home.

Thats pretty much it from me, but I must say a big thanks to MrJoolz and J.M. for the great day out, was real fun and really enjoyed it, both sound guys.

Biggest thanks go to Pete. Without him, I wouldn't have been able to go...he loaned me the Bandit and to be honest, I enjoyed every minute!

Cheers for the ride out mate, and putting me up for a couple of nights Very Happy My bike's had quite an eventful few days... phone charger breaking... bike cutting out on the Thursday morning before leaving to meet paddy... running out of fuel on the M2... being bump started at 8am... breaking down in a car park... hopefully that's all over now Laughing

I've been laughing slightly at the fact that other than the lunch and the ferry, all my photos seem to be of bikes! Laughing

This was the 11am ferry that we were supposed to be catching. Paddy left booking his ticket too late though and he got booked on to the noon ferry. Turns out though, if you're on a bike, you just board whatever ferry you feel like and they just slot you on. We all took the 11:30 one in the end.

I got a couple of nice shots from on the ferry itself:

Once we got to the isle of wight, we just went riding. We ended up in this car park that Paddy mentioned. We stopped, took a few photos of the bikes and what was around us and started looking on MrJoolz's iPhone for somewhere to grab some fuel. We went past somewhere earlier (where we decided to fill up in the end), but wanted to avoid that place because of the price. The flats at the edge of the car park were amazing as well. Wouldn't mind one myself!

We set off for fuel and a matter of minutes later we ended up in the exact same car park, entering though a different entrance. We all pulled up, laughing, and joking that it was going to be like one of those horror films where you can't escape. MrJoolz mentioned about it would be good if we could mount the phone to the bikes, so we knew where we were going. "Great!", I thought; I had just finished setting up a phone holder/charger on my bike. I popped off the seat and got the case out. In the end we just decided that we could learn the route and did that. I put the phone case away and we all hopped back on the bikes. MrJoolz and Paddy fired up their engines, did their life savers and off they went. I flicked my ignition to on... nothing. Off. On. Off. On. Nothing, no lights, no ignition, the bike was dead.

I popped off the seat again and started trying to look what was wrong. My initial thought was the main fuse; but that was fine. I then had the great idea of checking if the Cyclone worked, the alarm armed and disarmed, even the remote start was working. At that point I knew exactly what the problem was, Paddy also arrived at about this point. My shoddy soldering on the ignition wires had broken. It was also the reason for the bike cutting out on the Thursday. Luckily I had brought a load of electrical bits and bobs and a knife with me, so I soon had a bodge fix done and all taped up for safety. After that, me and Paddy raced off to go and find MrJoolz, who was waiting for us at the petrol station.

After filling up, the day was full of riding. Me and Paddy had managed a chocolate bar each thus far, after waking up too late for any breakfast. We didn't really care at this point though, the roads were great. There's only 1 police car on the island as well! Wink Laughing

We stopped off in this car park, where we have to say, the attractions looked quite good! We were getting hungry though at this point, and despite trying hard (and passing up on a co-op), we still hadn't found a chip shop!
There was a giant man holding a barrel:
https://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/548598_381180628583573_100000749172237_1220373_334299430_n.jpg

And some form of roller-coaster:

Thanks to the trusty Google, we found that there was plenty of places to eat at our next destination: Ventnor!

That is also where the shoddy parking was, also where the bike was that looked like it hadn't been moved in a decade:
https://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/s720x720/553179_381181151916854_100000749172237_1220376_309877013_n.jpg

Hey look, a mini isle of wight!

Paddy's lunch was big, but mine was equally as nice! Two bacon baguettes! I was only going to have one... but it was too nice to resist a second.
https://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/555408_381182355250067_100000749172237_1220385_1160929894_n.jpg

Whilst waiting to board the ferry back, we stopped next to a GSXR. Paddy mocked the size of the exhaust, which you can just about see in the photo. Paddy's exhaust on his GSXR is tiny, for those of you that don't know. Tiny and deafening. But bloody awesome Drooling
https://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/541814_381182855250017_100000749172237_1220389_545913825_n.jpg

At least the photo of leaving the isle of white looks a bit miserable - makes me feel a little bit better about having to leave it Sad
