Hi,
who actually has one, or has used one?
The step-mother bought one and cooked roast chicken in it Neutral Are they any good? What cant you cook in them? Apparently it uses a tiny amount of power, but i cant see how a 3k Watt halogen bulb is 'effiecient'

Rox's grandparents have just bought us one the other day.
We used it tonight, cooked Pizza in it. Laughing
Did quite a good job, it got up to 200 deg C in about 2 minutes.

And the added benefit is, it cleans its self too!

we have one, well the missus drives it I just eat what it cooks Laughing
seems to do a decent job of it and is prob cheaper than cooking in a gas oven I would think especially as there is just the 2 of us.
weird when you fill with water to clean itself as the water rushes around as if there is a propellor in there.

Ever since I got a Halogen, four years ago, I've used my oven about ten times.

Massively recommend these.

Benefit over microwave:
Doesn't destroy the taste of food
Can put most things in halogen - not only food, but cooking containers (metals, plastcs, etc)

Benefits over oven
Better for bills.
Almost instant heat (rather than 30 minutes pre heating etc)
Compact. Is also portable if you need it to be.
Halogen easy to clean.
Quicker to cook - mainly 'cos Halogen is at 150-200C about a minute after you switch it on. EG A frozen lasagna in cold started oven, maybe 1hr 15 to be properly cooked = 25 minutes in halogen. Amd unlike in the microwave (10 minutes), no loss of flavour, etc.

Quite frankly, I see no reason to even have an conventional oven now. If you're a gourmet chef, okay - probably better with the conventional oven. But for the average bloke on the street....

Downsides of Halogen
-Can't really do stir frys. So still need some sort of hob.
- Space is a problem. You can get extension rings, and you've got to get the larger Halogen, rather than the mini one, but if you're cooking for a family of, say, 5 I imagine, the halogen would be impractical.
