As you guys may know, i was caught doing 73 in a 30. Mutterings of 12 month bans and fines of up to 300 quid were heard. And not that im criticising the CPS or anything, but i think what i got was damn impressive Very Happy

28 day disqualification and 50 quid fine Very Happy

Now that said i know ill get flak etc etc, go for it. I wont take it to heart, and to be honest i was expecting a whole lot worse too. But i perhaps just said the right things.

Anyway i intend to fix up the goose, flog it and get a 250 or such. Something that handles and stops well, but wont get me in as high speeds so quickly as i dont have that much restraint on an open road.

Any one know if you have to declare disqualifications to insurance? And if you have cover already do you have to declare to them and pay extra?

You jammy git, 73 in a 30!!!

Mind you, i did get stopped on the a23 the other week with a traffic volvo behind me when i was doing 145mph only to be pulled over and informed that i undertook a car a while back and the dangers of undertaking and that i shouldn't be driving without gloves (which i shouldn't have been, just a mate was borrowing them that day!)!

Lucky bugger.

Yes, you have to declare disqualifications to insurance, when getting quotes and for existing policies. Failure to do so will invalidate the insurance (any excuse to not have to pay out).

If you can't trust yourself on the Goose, what's different about a 250, which should also be able to do 73 in a 30? Here's a tip - it's not the bike that speeds...

Hi

You were very lucky. Sounds like you have got away with no points, so therefore have avoided the 6 point / 2 year ban thing.

Nobody on here is a saint, and I am not having a go, but please be careful where you choose to push it a bit.

Bike wise I would be tempted to suggest something like a small traily. The flying crucifix riding position will make doing high speeds very uncomfortable for more than a short time. Or if you could take the image maybe a cruiser which would be happy and smooth at low speed, but get worse as speeds got higher.

Yes you do have to tell your insurance company, and that is likely to hurt more than the fine.

All the best

Keith

No points? No retest? That's less than the standard fixed penalty of 60quid and 3 points!

It almost seems like it's better to go faster...

Anyway as someone who just got a NIP today (in a 30, but for what speed yet I do not know), your case shines out like a beacon of hope...

Good luck DOES exist. Well done.

Smile

As a matter of relevant interest, did you put up a defense or mitigation of any sort in the end or just plead guilty?

Nice, seems like the court was in a good mood today. Mr. Green Thumbs Up

You do have to declare it to them, don't believe they'll charge you extra for the rest of this years policy, but I'd tell them about it to be 100% sure about it.

What 250's are you consider getting?

It isnt illegal to undertake, as long as it is deemed safe to do so!

Erm, how will a 250 slow you down?

If your on about getting a 250cc Sports bike then you will be going faster IMO, as you will cane it more cos you need to, to be able to get anywhere with it.

Or you may be on about the CB250 Laughing.

Anyway, your a lucky sod, just don't go so fast next time Razz.

Undertaking is not illegal. There is nothing illegal about under taking assuming you're not breaking the speed limit etc. If you're pushing it a bit or the undertake is when filtering then they'll do you for dangerous driving.

not really, depends if the undertaking area is clear! otherwise, filtering between lanes 2 and 3 on a motorway would not be allowed. only on the central reservation!!

Too answer the questions;

My defence (i was on my own, in a lovely suit, and well groomed well spoken etc) went something like this;

Jp: Have you anything to add?

Me: Yes your honour. Im sure you have had many a sacchirin(sp?) defendent standing here telling you of how safe they are and how this is obviously a misunderstanind. I however know this is a crime of strict liability and wont waste the courts time. All i would like to add though is that the road was clear and there were no pedestrians in my field of vision. I admit i was speeding voluntarily, however i wasnt fully aware of the excess to which i had breached the limit {opened myself to due care and attention Rolling Eyes }. In hindsight however i do shudder at the thought of my actions and all i would like to say is - as can be seen on the statement of means - my income and expenditure is pretty much identical and i have no savings accounts etc, so i would respectfully request installments if possible?

Jp: Have you anything else to notify us of?

Me: oh yeh, it goes 30 - 40 - 60 within a hundred yards and...

Jp: No i meant as in affects

Me: Oh. Well i currently do not commute to college, however im not sure if it would affect my application into the constabular.

-End of-

Oh and i forgot to add i was shaking like a dog shitting razor blades the whole time, but somehow kept eye contact and polite the whole time.
But yes i will agree very very very jammy.

As for the new bike im thinking of? Well a Honda cbf250 would 'do' me. And obviously i wouldnt downgrade from a 4 stroke 350 putting out 32 ish bhp to a 250 2t putting out 60 ish... Not gonna help now is it.
I need something sedate but reasonable handling and stopping. And with a nice pillion seat. Not 80 feet high like the goose.

Oh and yes i know its the rider not the bike, however who is more likely to get caught and banned... a guy on an R1 or a guy on a cg 125? If you catch my point. And also the goose aint wonderful, but it cant half shift from standing. Not to mention from cruising if you crack down a gear.

Oh and i did actually ask if i had to retake. Since its a disqualification and not a band via points, i dont. Its 28 days and carry on as you will Very Happy

And before anyone says, yes i WILL keep off the road during that time.
