 |
|
Ok, before you bite my head off saying this has been posted a bajillion times
Thought I'd bump it for others to learn
Anyways
Was out yesterday with a few mates so feeling rather cocky, come to a roundabout with a nice radius for it, good speed, engine felt happy so I went for it
Apparently, the guy behind said I was really close down
But what techniques do you need to do to get it down?
From what I know its -
Shift ass so left is on, right is off
extend knee out
head to the right of the windscreen
lean like a beast
what else is missing from the list of requirements to muller yourself??? ____________________ Ex: CBR 125 R 06', ZXR 400 96' (RIP), Bandit 650 06'

I keep trying with the gs500 but it never happens. I'm sure it's because I'm not leaning the bike enough, I literally hang off as much as I can.
It's very annoying. |

Show offs, whats the point if you can get round safely and quickly without doing it
Who am I kidding, I stand erect on my footpegs when I go over speed bumps because it amuses me
How about 'how to get your leg over - for beginners' next?
I'm sure there's a big thread on this somewhere... ____________________ Fzr-600 1999

Knee downs will come naturally from fast riding with good body positioning. |
what he said.
i think you've got it mostly covered. outside leg up and gripping the tank (i push up with my toes on the peg), shift bum over, get down, kiss the inside mirror and drop your shoulder/elbow. if you're in the right position your inside knee should naturally want to come out. if you're having to use any 'force' to get your leg out then you're twisted on the bike and not in the right position.
it should feel comfortable and 'natural'.
remember, you're never leaning off as much as you think you are (most people dont anyway)
e.g. (cant resist a photo whore moment)
im bike 23

see how my shoulder is pointing downwards, my head is down and looking through the corner. im not pulling on the bars at all, all my weight is on my outside leg. compare that to the guy behind me. he'll get his knee down easy being as lanky as that but he's sitting right over the bike not parallel along it and having to lean it a lot more than he otherwise would need to.
and another from the other side on my trackbike

body position isnt as good but it still works.
an awkward corner that. 1st time at donny so wasnt setup as well as i could have been for each corner, but then you never are when learning a track
and a final one overtaking an instructor at mallory

you can see im not hanging off all that much, not as much as i thought i was (as mentioned above) but you can see im down, head down at the side and looking through.
the sensible person in me will tell you not to bother on the road and get on a trackday. but the realist in me says you're going to try anyway.. and i did myself on my old CBR600F. i've never had my knee down on the blade even though its a far more capable machine.. just havent felt the need on the road, even when i was bombing it through scotlands lovely clear roads.. on track however, thats when i can let loose.
1st time i got it down was going around a roundabout near me called the 'peanut roundabout' peanut shaped it goes round and tightens up forcing you to lean the bike more. that helped me get my 1st touch and after that it was easy. i had a mate follow me telling me how close i was and what i needed to change in my body position. he did suggest getting a pair of socks and stuffing them down the knees to push them out more but i thought that was cheating a bit.
hope some of that helps ____________________ CBR954RR - Daily toy
