Yep.

It was fucking pissing it down out of nowhere, to the extent I couldnt see any road markings, I assumed I could just turn right as normal, but then the other lane of traffic moved too. I put it down to inexperience, he probably didn't expect me to carry on.

All he said was "the lights went green mate"
"Yeah mine too..."

the CID police whatever they are happened to be there to keep me warm while the real police came, real police came and said they'd take breathlysers and details of us both, they forgot/chose not to breathlyse me in the end, did fancy a go on one

Bike damage: Bad. But not too bad hopefully. It was too dark to tell fully but it's not rideable, lets say that. It pulls to the left very heavily, the forks don't seem bent but as I say, dark rain and adreneline I could be wrong. Gear lever snapped off, speedo smashed up, wheel not aligned with the bars. Engine started back up no problem and it drives and changes gears. Probably pricey to fix the bits on it.

Mandatory paint diagram.
https://s17.postimage.org/ovitmcgq5/i_dun_goofed.png
The green circles are green traffic lights, and I was indicating right by the way.

Flame me for doing something stupid if you like, but I'm already sad enough at the state of my bike Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Literally just back from riding with my mate on his CG and another guy on his gilera DNA, was having a great time.

Shit ending to an otherwise good day.

Oh yeah and me, i'm er, ok mostly. My hamstring and knee and ankle aches like fuck. Was cramping up in the police car and my shoulders a bit achey. Would be much worse off if I didnt have my gear on Thumbs Up

I am very sad. We have ordered pizza.

I had the option of paying police recovery £120 to get my bike back, but that was silly money and my stepdad has a van so, the police gave me a lift back to my house to grab my chain then back to the bike to lock it up the ebstI can, its in the middle of a very busy road where you can't really stop, so i'm hoping it will be okay till tomorrow when my stepdad can pick it up.

Did I mention i am very sad? Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

looks like you were already on the appropriate lane when he began moving. I'm assuming collision was on your left?

If so, most likely in your favour.

If you collided with his driver side, most likely not in your favour.

Bad luck Sad

Looks like your fault as well from the diagram. I'm guessing you didn't have a green filter light, just a green light, and both sets of lights turned green... is up to any traffic turning across the road to give way to those going straight on ;( Those kinds of junctions are actually stupid and do catch people out

How could he be in the right after turning across the path of oncoming traffic?

Yes, he hit me on my left, my leg hurts and the gear levers snapped, pretty much hit my leg trapping it between his car and my bike as it collided..

Yes, the police took details form both of us and gave them to each other, including contact numbers in case we settle it out of insurance. I'm going to give them a ring in the morning to see what they say, depending on the repair costs I very much doubt i'll claim.

I don't want to say whether I think It was my fault or his in print on here, but I do think he had a lot of time to see me indicating and coming into his path and to brake, but he didn't... But yes those types of roads do catch people out...especially that ugly dangerous one where lorrys regularly frequent. To the extent as the police tried to U turn to get out they nearly got hit by someone, seriously Rolling Eyes

It was here https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=watermead+way+leicester&hl=en&ll=52.667378,-1.107302&spn=0.042109,0.077162&sll=52.695269,-1.155964&sspn=0.16833,0.308647&t=h&hnear=Watermead+Way,+United+Kingdom&z=14&layer=c&cbll=52.667326,-1.107136&panoid=ka8iBMD3F8olSbHKMCGEnA&cbp=12,300.78,,1,2.75

Obviously i was in the right hand lane, although it was hard to tell lane markings with my shitty headlight and in the pissing rain

If the green filter light wasn't on, you might have a tough case. Usually junctions like that have a pause, so oncoming traffic gets out of the way, goes red, and then the green filter light comes on.

Looks like his right of way - whether or not he was a penis about it and forced this point probably won't help you much when it comes to finding liability. He'll probably suddenly realise that he (and his seven kids) have all got whiplash in the morning too.

No filter light, see the link https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=watermead+way+leicester&hl=en&ll=52.667378,-1.107302&spn=0.042109,0.077162&sll=52.695269,-1.155964&sspn=0.16833,0.308647&t=h&hnear=Watermead+Way,+United+Kingdom&z=14&layer=c&cbll=52.667326,-1.107136&panoid=ka8iBMD3F8olSbHKMCGEnA&cbp=12,300.78,,1,2.75

I'm not fighting it or saying it wasn't my fault, but I think it could have been avoided if both of us were paying more attention.
End of the day I put it down to inexperience and poor road knowledge, those types of giveway turns are unfamiliar to me Thumbs Down

That link shows a filter light on the far traffic light.
Bit of an odd place to have one though.

Omg, totally didn't see that, and took me a good while looking jsut now to spot it. The green light came on but that probably didn't. Couldn't even tell it was there considering the darkness.

Wtf, roads?!

I thought your ring was the only way? Embarassed

Anyway, I don't care about the blame game, that's for insurance to decide, or not as it will probably be in my case.

What sort of price for repairs am I looking at do you think?

The forks seem okay, but what would make the wheel out of line?
I suppose you can't really say without a look at it, could be a whole new wheel or anything I guess.

Sigh. I'll see tomorrow in the light, hopefully it'll survive the night without being picked apart by the local vermin

I had my go pro in my pocket too, could have captured it. Could be a bad thing though Embarassed

Yeah you're right, I zoomed in a bit and it's definitely there.
OP is this picture outdated or is it still there..? Might give you something to work with if it was on at the time.

Maybe they should have a red arrow for filters when you don't have right of way (but if the green traffic light was on you "go if clear" as usual), would certainly help in this situation - someone approaching the junction for the first time would have a hard job spotting it, a filter light on permanently red/green would at least let you know it was there & the red filter light would let you know the traffic is still oncoming.

Sorry to hear about your accident OP...chin up Thumbs Up

All he'll have to say was his light was green.

OP, sucks on the off, but like you say put it down to experience. You may have been indicating, and he may have had time to stop, but the point is he would have expected you to give way to him.

Take the traffic lights out of equation, if you had turned across the flow of traffic into the path of another car, it would have been your fault. Exactly the same applies with traffic lights put back into the situation.

That's not to say that we all haven't done things equally as stupid, but more often than not got away with them.. Karma

Looks to me (looking from above too) like the idea might be that you move from the "turn right" lane into the "turn right" filter section, then if it's clear you can go (assuming light green) or if not, wait for filter light, which would at that point be on the closest lights to you because you've moved forward past the other lights.

Weird setup though, and that's mostly a guess.. I can see how it'd be doubly confusing in poor visibility. Seems like a junction that could really do with being replaced by a nice clear roundabout.
