Just wanted to say how awesome it felt today to get my first 'nod'. Totally wasn't expecting it as i've got L plates and a 125. Nice to see there isn't the same stigma as car L's Got 4 on the way home from work today.

Si, if it was any of you heading towards Glasgow as i was heading out towards south side, thank you! Thumbs Up

Motorbike L's are worse though overall! The car drivers see them and I'm sure their attitude is "that isn't a proper bike - it's too small, and the rider has L plates, so I'm sure he's some dumb college kid that's too poor to have a car. I have a car and full licence so FUCK HIM, I should be in front, I have the right to overtake him at 20mph over the limit at a junction because I'm clearly better than he is Middle Finger

Or the ones that just barge their way across in to your lane when their lane merges into yours and you've already let one car in - because cars are more important than bikes right?, and he's only a learner so he probably won't even realise what I'm doing is wrong... Rolling Eyes

I can live with mistakes due to not being seen; they're unintentional. It's the ones that do inconsiderate things deliberately that really piss me off.

Feel like going round with a sign on my back saying "I'm a car driver too!!" in the hope of getting just a little bit more respect on the road.

Better stop there before it gets too long, sorry for the rant.

It will get boring. I don't even nod back anymore to be fair. I pretend to concentrate on where I'm going rather than fucking about with a nod to some twat on a brand new Honda. *Gulp* and breathe..

Only really nod in winter as there are so few bikes on the road.

I was chuffed when i got my first not too Laughing Now i just kind of nod whenever a bike goes past, but i dont care if i get a nod back.

Honestly i dont find that people dont not at 125s and L platers (well maybe peds). I did not at some fat guy on a 50cc once and he seemed shocked and confused about what to do back Laughing

Obviously, from the replies, this gets discussed often and you're bored of the subject. However I don't actually give a fuck and have only been here for a few weeks so how was I supposed to know.

And anyway, why reply with stuff like that? Just ignore the post.

You need to redeem yourself quickly, start a couple of new threads telling us that you're thinking of becoming a courier and another to say you drove past a downed motorcyclist without stopping, that ought to salvage your reputation.

I remember my first nod... It was when I left the London area and bikes became rarer to spot. Thought there was something wrong with the bike with everyone nodding at me.

I do quite like it now though. It's like a warm hug of acceptance.

Good Motorcycle Etiquette Guide:

Acknowledge other motorcyclists. While passing in opposite directions, acknowledge with a nod of the head or a hand gesture. This hand gesture would be to take your left hand off the handlebar and clutch, then give a low-positioned, open-handed wave or two victory fingers.

Ignore the fogeys, they're just jaded because they've forgotten how ace it is. Razz

I dunno if it's a Local Thing for Local People, but out East Kilbride way it seems to be mostly waves. This is mine:

https://www.threadbombing.com/data/media/2/team_america.gif

If you want to wave/nod, go for it, it's better to give than to receive (ask The999Kid).

I'm one of those twats on a big bike who doesn't nod to anyone, unless they're female and fit.

Even then it's more of a crotch rubbing and wink than a nod tbf.
