There are rumblings at work of moving us back to the other office. Unfortunately, that means £9 a day to park the car, so that sods that idea right off. Bike parking's free though.

I don't really want to use the CBR for commuting every day, cos of high-ish running costs and spoiling the fun factor.

So, given a commute that would be about 15 miles of motorway blast, 5 of motorway filtering and another 5 of town riding (so 50 miles a day), please suggest me some cheap to run commuters that you think would suit. Say the budget for the new bike is around £1000. Smile

(This is all vague at the moment and hopefully we won't get moved but I'm bored and am browsing ebay thinking about what I'd do if we did.)

CB5 was the first thing that popped into my mind. Just wondering if anyone has some more off-the-wall suggestions. Wink

Divvy 600? You can pick up a tidy one for maybe £650.

Thumbs Up

An absolutely bloody awful pile of crap, but a brilliant suggestion. Cheap to buy, insure and run. Easy to work on, will do what you need it to do, and who in their right mind is going to steal it. Plus, the fact that you hate it (and you will), means that you won't care that winter is destroying it. Thumbs Up

Yup, have to agree the Divvy isn't a bad idea. It's kinda the bike equivalent of my car - uninspiring yet economical.

GPZ? There's various engine sizes, and they're faired so the chill factor in winter wouldn't be as bad! You can pick them up dirt cheap too, and i'm talking under £500.

GPZ might be a little too un-comfy or hard work riding tho?

I'd go with the CG500 suggestion above. Easiest ride I've had.

Hi

GPZ500, CB500, GS500 or a Divvy.

If you want a Divvy then I have one that will be for sale soon (when I have sorted the rear shock out).

All the best

Keith

Got to add a vote for the GPZ500, fun to ride, and cheap too, there narrow too so make commuting easy and the fairing doesn't half keep alot the wind and rain off!

I feel there alot better than a CB500, Though I've only ridden a CB500 once so I can't properly compare.

Hmmm, that rules a few bikes out then, can I ask why you don't like Kwakers?

Another suggestion of mine is an MZ Skorpion 660 Traveller, there fully faired using the 660cc Yamaha engine, I have been taken pillion on one and there quite a nice little bike, lacking in power but fun and using decent components like Grimeca brakes and WP Suspension, narrow too and only Group 9 insurance, 18 ltr tank so decent tank range only problem is its an MZ and for some its enough to put them off.

There's one on ebay at the moment: https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=9931&item=2491112170&rd=1

I have an irrational dislike of them, just as I have an irrational dislike of Vauxhalls and of mushrooms, amongst other things.

YAY!

GL 500/650
GL 1100 (only a semi serious suggestion before i get banned)

Both can be got for less than allot pay for insureance, both make the divvy look like a frickin mv augusta, which means when you go to the car park they would still be there Razz

Something with a big ugly faring, as many cylinders as possible and handlebar muffs Laughing

zzr600/+ would do well, you could put triumph stickers and keep tellinf yourself its not a kwak

VMax? suppriseingly comfy and not exactly slow[/quote]

After market-faired GS500, quite sneaky around town I find.
Unlike the new GS500F which seems bigger/slower to me Confused
