Thoughts?

I just bought some to make merging from riding with safety in mind to going head-to-head with social situations a little easier. The hunt for a casual looking armoured leather jacket is now on.

With the exception of armored jeans being a bit baggier on the legs than my other jeans, all seems well so far. But then thorough tests haven't yet been had: I've not fallen off to test the armor. And I've not been shot at to test the kevlar.

I've got a pair of Hood Army Green Jeans, they seem to work pretty well. Casual looking for when out and about, suitable for doing work in, and durable enough to save my skin in a crash that shredded my waterproofs and broke my collar bone.
They've been left with a small hole in the outer fabric, but the kevlar lining is immaculate, as was my knee. Very Happy

Yeah I felt my bumhole tighten up a bit when I was asked for £99 for 'em, but to be honest, scummy little twat rags spend more than that on shitty Primark quality jeans purely cos they say SuperDry and Bench on them.

I bet CE don't approve of their jeans

Good story Berk! Now I just need some cocoon for my frickin' collar bone...

Ahhh thank you for making this thread. I was looking for casual looking armored clothing which i could wear to work/college/social events.
1) For the following reasons, don't want to bring a extra pair of trouser, trainers with me every where i go.

2) The thought of wearing protection is thought as uncool among most young individuals i socialise with.

3) Would have to arrive at my destination extra early to have enough time to change and dry off (if raining).

Few questions, even if the clothing has CE approved armour would this mean you wouldn't not need to buy things like knee pads, back protection etc?

AFAIK, the only jeans that are actually CE approved are made by Sartso - everybody else uses CE knee / hip inserts, but the garments themselves aren't.

It doesn't mean they won't work, but most of them don't put their certification where their marketing is.

TLDR

Watch my reviews

Kevlar - Sartsos Vs Draggin

I've got a couple of Sartsos and one pair of Draggins. I've worn Sartsos exclusively over the last year - crashed in them on the road... and crashed myself silly doing Minimoto with the BCF lads.

Personally, I don't bother with the knee armour. It's not too comfortable, and I need to remove them to make it useful when I'm off the bike.

Sartsos look cool enough to mosh in on a friday night at Sin City or Scala.

As for jacket - anything will do for me. All of my leather kit is exclusively alpinestars... but there's a personal reason for that.

https://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/320570_10150475208500712_500990711_10601428_682412421_n.jpg

That's what I wear when I go out in London - I get to my mates house only to drop the bike off and then I'm good to go into Camden.

That jacket is 80 quid from the NEC and it's comfortable enough off the bike as well as on it.

I'm in the market for some Kevlar jeans and have also balked at the cost of them. I will, however, bite the bullet and purchase some within the next few days as the cost of injury to my person would be catastrophic for both me and my company.
What price do you put on your legs?

Put it this way, I don't bother wearing my 1 piece race leathers when I'm going for a short 50 mile blast. I'm used to wearing baggy jeans worn low i.e. skater boy style, so Sartso killers were the right cut for me. The opening on the legs were big enough to get the denim over my beefy Alpinestars SMX-Plus boots which have ridiculous armour on the shin and calves.

Hood, though I haven't tested them, are noted to be very good. I'd stay away from draggin and red route. Have a look at my review and you'll see how poor the kevlar coverage is on the Draggins. Plus, no provisions for armor, and the fact that the non-reinforced areas started ripping when I brushed against a table or something!

Your reviews are frickin awesome. Mostly because you sound pretty posh and like to talk a bit like a G every now and then. Which is exactly what I do (on both counts).

Interestingly my issue with my jeans is that they only seemed to be available in bootcut. And I don't really like boot cut. So you don't wear knee pads when you're riding?

P.S. "Whatever...you can't control me when I'm pissed."
Priceless.

I don't wear knee pads because depending on how the jeans rest on my waist, it alters where the knee cup sits, unlike in leathers where the fit is pretty tight, you can guarantee the armour rests where it's supposed to.

Saying that, the armour is CE approved and is pretty good, but also found that the bottom half of the knee cap interfered with the boot armour.

Yeah, I suppose if you're not a fan of the straight cut/boot cut, then sartsos won't suit you.. but convention is that with jeans, it's jeans over boots... and boots over leather trousers/suits.

With jackets, just get anything off ebay that's your size and suits your taste. I still wear my 1st A* jacket I purchase used on ebay 6 years ago! Gimme a shout on your height, chest dimensions and weight and probably can give you a decent shout as to what to go for when buying used.

My favourite eBay jacket so far:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QUALITY-RK-SPORTS-MATT-LEATHER-FREERIDE-JACKET-REMOVABLE-THERMAL-LINER-/190574880538?_trksid=p3286.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7714682859623049703#ht_784wt_1270

Vitals: a whopping 5'9 with a impressively athletic 40" chest, and 11 boulders of weight (note: some descriptions may be slightly oxymoronic (which also may be a made up word))

And in terms of jean, I much prefer a straight cut. But couldn't find any in't shop and really wanted some cos I'm bored of the cheap ass mo'fckin textile suit I bought when I first got the bike just so I had something to ride in.

That leather jacket does look fairly nice, only comes in a Large or bigger though?

If you're after a textile jacket I can reccommend the one I got off ebay a while ago, I have done before and people have gone on to buy it! It's half price

Why on earth would that make any difference? Most of your leathers you find in shops are made in Sialkot, Pakistan. They have a long history of making textile and other clothing and especially motorcycle kit.

On another note, I have got a set of Draggin Next Gen's and love the stretch denim and kevlar, it makes riding a lot easier. I also have a set of hornee jeans, while tighter fitting they are still great for social rides/nipping into town.

I am still waiting on the sartso's arriving to get reviewing them.

I wear this jacket with draggin jeans.

https://stores.jjpartsco.com/catalog/One-O-OneBlack.jpg

I went to a company called Nine Lives who do all manner of work on bike leathers and such, and had them put in a waist connection zip on the jeans so whether I'm wearing that jacket or light summer textile one I'm always zipped together.

Also had Nine Live put in mesh pockets in the jeans so I have fitted Hipprotech armour from Hein Gericke, which is a lot more.

Ive got a pair of Draggin Jeans and a pair of Hiengericks own make bike jeans. Both are perfectly comfortable to wear all day, however I do only consider them fit for bimbling around town on the bike. The thought of coming off at speed wearing them is something I don't wont to consider.

OTOH, for some real casual wear on the bike, how about these:

I bought a pair of 'Route one' jeans as they were cheap (think i paid £40), as I wanted to see what these kevlar denims were like.

Coverage is basic, but OK. Large patches on knees, strip up outer thigh, and then coverage over rear.
They also have a small connector zip in the waistband, which is a nice touch.

Downside, the fit is... odd. They have a MASSIVE waist, I take a 34, but they are easily a 36. (maybe mine were labelled wrong), and I wish they had an extended yolk, as when on the bike, if you don't have the connector zip on your jacket, they can sit a little low.

As for armour, mine came with CE knee pads, but as others said they have the potential to slip, so, I bought these:
https://www.ghostbikes.com/products/2432-knox-flex-lite-knee-guard-protectors.html and they are great. You pull them on like a sock, then velcro them in place, they are 'curved' over your knee, so they don't shift at all, yet flexible enough to walk in.

Will certainly consider another pair of better coverage jeans, like hoods etc later this year.
