How on earth did he get away with that?

All the best

There really is no justice in this world... Goes to show the traffic/police system is a joke! There is no way in the world that he should have kept his job - should be in prison etc like all the other "mere mortal" hit and run drivers!!

That's a disgrace. If I were the people involved, I'd definitely start a civil action against him.

I'd be willing to bet you a large sum of money that the officer in question would have lost his job were his skin colour a little paler. As an officer is quoted in the story, constables have lost their jobs for a lot less, however, the police forces are extremely wary of sacking officers from ethnic minorities for fear of bad publicity in the media, as well as failing to meet their ethnic recruitment targets.

Something quite similar happened at work, an officer that was dealing with detainees and their families outside of work, handing out secure information, was sacked and then quietly rehired when he threatened to go to the papers with accusations of racism.

It's not right, but expect to see plenty more of it until the current craze for PC at all costs is over.

Sorry if this offends anyone's beliefs or worldview, but I'm afraid it's how I read the situation.

I have to agree with Mister James it's reverse rasism.

We are sooo paranoid about appearing racist these days its pathetic.

That story doesn't mention it, but apparently a senior female officer had been giving him abuse and he threatened to take action on racial grounds if they dismissed him.

All wrong and he should of lost his job and received a normal punishment like anyone else.

Just theoretical, but what would have been the punishment for average joe? A similar case happened to my ex's dad. A nutter driving a taxi hit him and scarpered, then called the police and said that the old fella had hit the taxi and ran like the wind. He was insured etc but they were pretty heavy with him. Think it was in the range of an £800 fine, some points and a good ticking off. Isn't justice wonderful, protect the innocent and punish the wrong - my arse.
