'lo

Came out this morning to find a lovely puddle of nearly-new fork oil pissed all over my brand-new BT090.

Turns out there is a small rusty nick in the stanchion which has wrecked the seal.

Usually replacing both the bushes is a given on suspension as we all know worn ones will fuck a new seal up in just a few miles.

However these bushes have done exactly 0 miles to can I get away with just replacing the seal or should I go and give Mr Honda even more of my hard-earned cash?

Cheers Dears

xxx Thumbs Up

Very small pit which can be fixed with the tiniest of needle files, some wire wool and gentle rubbage.

However I have had a look under the seals and it all looks OK - it managed to lose more of its oil overnight but the stanchions, seals and struts are all bone dry.

I am beginning to suspect its nothing more than the bottom bolt working loose, so will have another gander tonight after work.

Although now I am a bit lost because I can't remember what fork oil I used. meeeh

Cheers peeps Karma

You don't need to replace the bushes, they take ages to wear out. Being made of brass, they can get aware with a little more abuse when starved of oil than steel could.

Probably 10W fork oil.

Use a finishing pad (I tend to use a grey one) over any areas that are at all round when you run a fingernail over them. Does a fantastic job at smooth stanchions without being too abrasive like wire wool. I've rescued some pretty bad forks this way.
