Riding to work today on my normal route through Bognor regis and Just before I hit a NSL single lane road theres grit everywhere !

I have only had my cb500 for about a week and I just bought some new racing bike boots , but my god that was probably my scariest experience on the bike yet!

the tyres are brand new bridgestone tyres but once I rode over that grit I dropped my speed down to 15/20 mph and my bike was just sort of drifting from left to right

Anyone else had a horrible expereince with grit like this before?

Once I was at a mates house, put my Xena alarm on while my keys were at home (idiot)

Once I'd got a lift home and came back the roads had started to get icy, my front tire couldn't have been any balder if it tried

Ride home was like ice skating, every time I hit grit I'd be all over the place :/

Maybe because its the Uk and only last month / 2 weeks ago we had snow.. an the country likes to waste cash.

Only incident I have ever had with grit (large pieces of grit) was on my CBT coming around a corner I was told by the instructor to drop from second to first when taking the corner. Almost came off at that point was fun Mr. Green

The gritter was out last night up our way. I can't understand why, it's not been cold enough for it to be a problem lately. Especially up here. Roads were fine this morning at 8am and have been since they proclaimed snow was on the way, three weeks ago.

Now you know where it is, go back and ride up and down it till you are comfortable with it, nice smooth throttle, keep your weight as forward as you can, don't worry so much if the rear end moves about a bit. No harsh braking, but do practice gentle stopping on it. Could save your bacon one day when all about you are eating tarmac.

Went to the IOM last year after the racing was done and dusted. Parts of the course had been gritted getting it ready for the following year? which was a bit shit but at lest the mounting section was fine.

Going again this year but when the racing is on. TBH I don't expected I'll be riding around it as much as last year. As It will be closed for the racing when thats on and busy when it's not.

When I was in the IOW over Easter, it was sunny and warm.

Yorkshire, at the exact same time, there was snow. The snow was still there (but not much of it) when I was up there a couple of days ago.

I'd suspect it'a budget or contractual issue - use it or lose the budget, or they've got a new supply booked at cheap spring prices and need to dump some of the old stuff.

The gritters wont fuck off until the temps stay above 4c.
A roundabout near my house looks like a beach because they have been spreading like its going out of fashion.

but its dangerous !

i mean i cant be the only biker who felt a lack of grip and some cars must be experiencing the same

plus with all this grit on the road gonna fuck someones car or bike up sooner or later cause they cant b arsed to clean it ( fair enough that may be the owners fault Razz)

but i mean with all this loose grit flicking all over the round I can only imagine windscreen damage is going to go up

So you would rather ride on icy and untreated roads.. Rolling Eyes

Grit will not rot your bike away....

Not really going to do much damage to your windscreen is it...

Sleet and snow on the tops yesterday just outside Leeds, while I was enjoying a nice sunny walk on the Leeds/Liverpool canal... Go figure Less that 5 miles apart.

Also nice frost this morning, so any damp roads without being treated will have been a nightmare.

Dude i know what you mean, i live in bognor and had to go through the same road!!!! same as down the a29 towards yapton/fontwell its like that for about 2 miles! avoid it like the plaugue... I was swerving all over the place, had no grip at all! I cant believe how dangerous it is for bikers espesh if you dont realize its like that and then are going fast into it, you will come off like i nearly did as there was no warning signs on the bognor bit, they have put skid warning up now! Its not grit like they use when its icy as that stuff helps you grip, this is just grit were theyve dug the road up and havent thought about any kind of safetey. I wanted to phone the council up and complain but whats the point?

Not grit but came round a corner that I know well, only to find they had put loose gravel type shit all down the road. I was going fairly quick and I almost did a total noob move and grabbed a handful of brake lever but thank fuck my brain said "NO DON'T DO EEEET".

Because when someone does bin it, it's more likely they'll be able to claim their costs.

most annoying part is all the rain we had at the end of last week cleaned the roads up a treat and there were awesome grip levels for about 1 day untl the gritters came out.

Just need it to rain real heavy again now and hope they dont ruin it again, there's no need for it this time of year.

If they come out again i'm gonna go down to the depot and sabbotage their trucks Laughing

I dont want untreated road but the amount of grit used here no joke must be a good few CM's thick.

I mean remeber the snow back last year down here we had a good 5/6 inchs of snow and tony amount of grit were used in comparison to what was on the road yesterday.

I rod through it again today to get to work and I admit it wasnt as bad in places but i followed a tyre track from a car rather than riding down the middle of the road

I've never really liked the loose chippings/grit, occasionally i've went towards it quite fast and the bikes felt like it's done a slight 'drift' going into the corner. I do tend to ride with positive throttle in these situations though, it makes me feel like the backs doing more work!
