I've had my eye on an Alpinestars Patriot one-piece for a while, then suddenly realised that if I was spending £700-800 on a suit, would it not be better to get one custom made so as to avoid fitting problems that I might get with a generic suit like the Astars?

Does anyone own Crowtree/BKS leathers, and if so, do you rate them well? I was looking forward to the tart value of an A*, but suitability (no pun intended) and owning something of genuine quality sprung to mind.

You cannot go wrong with Crowtree

They are not all flashy panels and carbon go faster bits but honest, well put together top quality hide leathers

face it, most UK based circuit racers use them for their "crashability"

I bought a set last year with just about all the extras it's possible to have - cost me around £800

take a bit of wearing in as the leather is so thick but once worn in it's unnoticable that you are wearing them

simply superb, althpugh they do take about 3 months to make so if you want them for spring you need to be thinking about it now

oh and the owners Alec and Linda are some of the nicest people you coule ever wish to meet (and no I don't know them, I only know them from buying my leathers)

I have an A* one piece and to honest I'm not overly impressed. If I used them for anything more than messing about in/ hot hot summer days (ventilated) then I'd buy some Crowtrees.

As has been said before, BKS are nice and get decent reviews but are they really worth that much more than the Crowtrees?

Thanks for you input guys, I think I'm gonna leave the Astars suit on the peg & invest my hard-earned for when spring finally comes.
