ok , a friend of mine from work, NO ben i'm not talking bout you again.. Very Happy lol told me about putting a split fire spark plug into my moped for much better excelleration and a tad increase in top end, due to the plug sparking so many times more than a normal spark plug..

any rumours or info about these plugs would be great!

cheers guys ,

JIM.. Thinking

So far as i know all splitfire plugs do is provide the possability of more complete combustion. i should imagine that on a high performance engine which requires fast combustion at a preciese point in time, these plugs would be great.
However on a 2 stroke ped mixture would make FAR more difference than plugs.

So basically no they will not really give any performance increase at all, you may get an extra 5bhp out of an 800bhp sports car with them, but that equates to a tiny percentage improvement and would result in zero improvement on a low power ped not running in a high state of tune.

It doesn't spark any more than a *normal* plug, the bike won't go faster or accelerate fatser. The only thing it IS guaranteed to do tho is drop one of the electrodes into you engine & do a number on the top of the piston. They are a gimmick & one with potentially disasterous results in the engine damage dept.
Your friend is an idiot.

Why not see if you can get a three earth pin spark plug similar to that used in the Mazda RX8? I should think that it would do anything that the 'splitfire' plug would.

Oit Jim! U really ask sum dumb questions. U told me about them Splitfire sparkplugs too. Its bollocks. LOL. A spark plug aint gona increase the performance of a 50cc scooter.

U know u wer interestred in piston size, well ive got a head gasket off me old 50cc and a head gasket off me old 100cc. ill bring em in and show ya da difference, its not much at all.

And Jim, ur scooter did 50 - 55 with the pipe and rollers, u wont get much more out of a katana without major work. WASTE OF MONEY!

Buy my ped if ya want. :p. I think im gna sell it and get a DTR125.

L8rs!

What actually happens is the coil discharges one pulse of high voltage electricity to the plug. The plugs job is to get rid of this voltage by putting it to earth. As the centre electrode on the plug is not to earth the electric must jump to the electrode to reach it's destination. This is the spark we need to ignite the mixture. What i am trying to say is there is only one spark. In a multi electrode plug the spark takes the easiest route-simply-the closest electrode or more precisely the electrode with the less resistance to it. Hope this clears a few things up and has not bored you to sleep Very Happy Karma

Hi

As above, just the one spark. All that the multiple electrodes do is mean that when one wears down it starts to spark over another gap. For this reason they might well last longer that conventional plugs (and many modern cars do use multi electrode plugs for this reason), but not really worth the effort.

Beyond that they are just a cheaply brand of spark plug with some gimmicky marketing.

Check this for some info on the US FTC having a go at Splitfire for their dodgy claims.

All the best

Keith

ok guys cheers for the information,
i don't no much about engines and all that, so it doesn't hurt to ask,

rather find out from people with experience than just go and buy one, and either blow me engine up or summit

thanks guys..

If it did spart so many times more than a normal plug youd be haveing quite a bit of trouble with your engine!

The market is flooded with similar crap, If they made such a big difference would top race teams not be useing them by now?

Like the oil addatives, if it was so great, theyd bloody well be putting it into oil anyway!

Its only really max power readers that go for that total load of *******s (and those unfortunate enough to not know better)

Its good to ask arround Thumbs Up

You want a Honda Bros you do.

Two spark plugs per cylinder - that really does have two sparks and it hasn't done anything for the performance on that!
