Insurance claim started.......

I was knocked off my steed last sunday and i was just wondering how long my insurance claim could last, from start to finish. and what is the worst case in regards to time span if the guy contests the claim (can't see how he can, as got a witness that fully backs me up) and if he admits liability straight away. Hope someone can help.

think of a ridicules amount of time then double it and add at least 6 months. Then if you are still alive boom payday!!!!!!!

If it involves personal injury then probably years, my girlfriend's still got one going from before I met her, the claim is 3 years old and ageing.

If no personal injury, then it should be resolved in months rather than years I'd have thought.

The best idea is not to settle until the extent of your injuries is fully determined.

I'm 2 years in to a no-fault claim against a minicab driver who knocked me off.

If it wasn't your fault then you should have a hire bike, paid for by their insewerance.

The costs of these hire bikes tends to focus their minds into speeding things up somewhat !

Too late now, but you might have been better off not declaring the accident. I hope you have no-claims bonus protection; even though it was not your fault the accident will cost you a strike against your no-claims.

It's totally unethical but if someone knocks you off your bike, your insurance premiums will go up because you are considered a higher risk.

BTW, don't forget about "compulsory excess" and "voluntary excess", people tend to forget about that until the cheque arrives and they realize they've been stuffed.

I had a clear cut case that was open and closed in a month.

I also had one that was 3 months long.

Also had one just shy of 3 years.

No set in stone time I'm afraid.

For the personal injury claims that last years, do they add interest from the actual date the claim was started??

As others have said, personal injury claims drag on until you've made a full recovery.

I was over a year to get my uninsured losses back (kid seats, towbar, extras ordered with the car etc). The car was owned by my employers and they waited as long to get its value back.

Be careful what you expect to get back - they would only pay out on agreed heads of claim, where I could quantify a financial loss so things like inconvenience (I kept a note and had spent the equivalent of 2 working weeks dealing with it all) didn't come into it.

I don't know who I hate more, the bastard claims handler or the cnut that almost wiped out me and my family.

Mine took exactly 1 month for them to decide they didn't want to contest. The cheques for the bike came around a week after...personal injury and loss of earnings is on going.

I've heard if they're not too bad they can be settled after around a month but like above have known people who's cases go on for years
