So yeah,
Auction title - "Kawasaki ZXR 400 R&G Racing Crash Bung Fairing Panel Protectors Bobbins ZXR400L"

Description - "Here for sale is a pair of R&G Racing crash bung protectors complete with engine bolts.
They are in good condition though the R&G print is worn on one of them, please study the photo so you know exactly what you will be buying."

https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/OTgyWDk5OQ==/$(KGrHqN,!k0E9RQb03rpBPjLcbTTNg~~60_12.JPG

I thought this looks good.... I fancy some bungs for the ZXR....

I pays my 23quid inc p+p and they arrive a couple of days later.

Open the box....

https://nobcat.com/EBay/20120420_180008.jpg

One has the bolt supplied by R&G, the other is a random allen bolt...

I messaged the seller.

Quote:

Why has one of the bungs been cut down and why are the bolts different?

Neither were shown in the photo.

The reply...

Quote:
Hi,
The bolts that I have sent are what was used on the bike that they came from and so didn't think much of it as I know they do the job. As for one of the bungs being cut down, I'm not sure exactly what you mean, could you explain? Do you mean one is shorter than the other? If they had been cut I'm sure I would have noticed.
I'm pretty sure they are slightly different in length due to fairing position, I am just trying to get this confirmed

My reply
Quote:

I'm pretty sure size they should be the same size. I bought a set for another zxr400 L1 i had a couple of years ago.

I have uploaded hi-res pics for you at https://nobcat.com/EBay
They show the differences I have mentioned.

With regards to the bolts, they may do the job by they are made from different metals.
The ones supplied from R&G are designed to with-hold a certain amount of force before snapping/bending to prevent damage to the frame.

Here is a link to an auction for new R&G crash bungs, and it clearly shows the metals are the same for both bolts and the bungs are the same size.

I am waiting on a reply.

From the seller
Quote:
Thankyou for your detailed response,
I have looked at all of the links and images that you have provided and in my opinion it looks like I have sent you two crash bungs from two different models/bikes as the diameter of the thinner part of each of the bungs look to be different aswell. I have another set of black ones somewhere and I'm pretty sure that they match each other.
So.. All that said, if you would like to return them I will gladly refund the full price and initial postage.
Please let me know what you would like to do

I'm out of pocket for the return postage now dammit!

You do realise they are different on a lot of bikes. I'd say the problem was with the buyer not the seller in this case.

Got to admit with marjay, the bung doesn't look cut down so might be made that way to allow for an offset engine in the frame, but the bolts should be exactly the same type but one at a different length to allow for the short collar on one of the bungs.

FFS Marjay, i hate having to repeat myself because people are to fucking lazy to read....

There is something wrong, they are not the correct bungs for my zxr400.....

I bought and fitted a new set a few years ago for the zxr400 L1 i used to own.
I bought this set to put on my current zxr400 L1.

I know what they should look like.
I also know the bolts should both be the same type.

Oh and because you obviously missed it the 1st time around.

Well, they don't look like they've been cut down to me. If the guy bought the bike to break how was he to know that one of the bolts was incorrect? I'm sure I've had a set of R and G bungs where one bolt was a hexagonal bolt head and the other was a hex allen key socket cap.

They look fine to me. I suspect one of the engine mounts on the ZXR400 is wider than the other, and so you put the shorter bung on the wider mount.

I know you said that you bought some years ago and they weren't different, but memory is fallible, and these definitely don't look like they've been cut down. At the end of the day, if you want a guarantee on the quality of some crash bungs, you don't buy them second hand off of ebay. Its almost like buying a secondhand lid IMO.

Problem with buyer, not with seller.

(edit: just looked at your ebay link. 1.) why didn't you just buy it from there, and 2.) often those pictures are representative, and not of the actual set of bungs...)

Its too neat to have been cut. It must be meant for a different bike, or perhaps R and G racing updated the design?
