... doing 46mph in a 30. I now have 3 points on my licence and a £60 fine to pay.

Came onto a roundabout at Gretna, noticed police in a merc watching me, i pulled off and went into Gretna. They must have turned around and came after me, i stopped at the lights then when they turned to green and i gave a little too much on my right hand, realised my mistake and slowed to 30mph hadn't been over 30mph for more than 100Yds and they pulled me. I was just nice to them, they even said that they could do me for dangerous driving but they just gave me a fixed penalty.

I'm gutted, i don't know if i will be able to afford to get a bigger bike now because of the increase in insurance.

Has anyone else got points on their licence?

How long will they be on my licence?

How much extra on average will it add to my insurance premium?

Thanks

Adam

They stay on your liscence for 3 years, you have to tell insurance companies of previous convictions for 5 years i think, 3 points will do hardly anything to your insurance , well my ts10 didnt, dont know what there going to say about my upcoming ban though Confused .

I got three points for a similar offence in a car, they were on my licence for 4 years. For some reason they really hiked up my insurance (by about £150-200 a year), but that might be due to me not shopping around that much. Now they are off my licence its much cheaper (thank christ...)

It sucks that you got hit so hard with the points when other people have got away with doing much faster without getting points.

I asked the copper that pulled me and he says it is not a conviction, it is a endorsement so i don't have to tell my insurance company until i renew my insurance and thats not until April.

So i take it they will just be on for 3 years then.

My 3 points made about £30 difference to my premium.

Is it 1/5 people on the road have 3 points for speeding?
That's a lot of motorists

WOA NOW!

Tell them! If you have an accident and you have not told them of any changes of curcumstance they WILL NOT pay up. They are there to make money and they are good at it !

They will find any excuse not to pay out money.........Its not worth the risk.

Sorry Crying or Very sad

Yeah, you gotta tell them, the copper was totally wrong there. I got my three points on an SP50, they put twenty quid on my insurance straight away but didn't bump it up all that much in following years.

The points count for three years and you can have them removed from your licence after four...you have to tell your insurance company for as far back as they ask you about it..why? because they are a bunch of crooked bastards who are a law unto themselves.

Incidentally, if it was in Gretna, you probably got done by the same self-riteous twat that did me on the M74, he picks on bikes and likes to sit on the slip road coming down from Lockerbie. He pulled me on my GPZ when Glasgow businessmen had been flying past me in their Audis and Beemers at 130+ in the outside lane all the way down the road...Fair enough, I am not arguing with the fact that I was caught speeding fair and square but I was FAR from the fastest thing on the road at the time (although he was pretty pissed that he only got me for 98.6mph, in his own words "You were going a damn site faster than that sonny boy, it has taken me 17 miles to catch up with you!" Rolling Eyes .damnit, nearly made it to the border too

Yeah, they're cracking down on bikes at the moment around my area. He was totaly useless, he had a look over my bike for about ten minutes, it's got one illegal and a borderline tyre, no brake light from rear brake pedal, blown headlight and a knackered bearing in the rear wheel and all he said was my front tyre was getting a little low.

I'm gonna go to Annan police station and ask the sergeant about the points and the insurance company before i phone my insurance company. Tommorow will probably be the last time i ride my bike so i might just not say anything and save the money. I get my car on the road tomorrow for the winter so that i don't need to use my bike.

There is one thing I find odd about insurance. You do something bad and they hike the price up. Is it my twisted logic, but isn't it likely to make you more careful and aware in the future? Most people take take getting stopped by the police to heart and don't repeat the mistake twice. Surely it's just a scam on the part of the insurance company. <shakes head>

i'm not a big fan of gretna myself. Big ride out earlier this year to loch lomond (on a 125!!!) and nearly got whacked by a truck. You locals will probably know which roundabout i'm talking about... its at the top of a dual carriageway after a garage and has high banked sides on the middle, i was coming round it banked over and the truck driver looked right at me and kept going, felt a bid bad because i was obviously interrupting the conversation he was having into the mobile he had stuck to his ear. The truck shot right in front of me and ended up on the inside, my mate said if id stuck my hand out i could have touched him!

Yeah, thats the roundabout that the police spotted me on, i wasn't doing anything wrong but they decided to follow me instead of the guy making loads of noise in a suped up Saxo VTR. I went into Gretna and stopped at the traffic lights next to the shops(hadn't been speeding up until then). I then accelerated away from the traffic lights, realised my speed and slowed down, i never noticed the cop car sitting behind me. I know i did wrong but i think the police should have given me a warning as it was a first offence, the shock of being stopped has slowed me down. I am checking my speed a lot more now. I don't need the £60 fine and 3 points to make me slow down.

I think that there was little chance of you getting a ticking off as you were over the limit by 50%, it sucks but sometimes you have to put your hands up and take your medicine Sad

Edit. That said, I got off last week from deliberately going through a temporary red light (it was on red for ages and I thought it was broken, could see round it, late at night etc. ) unfortunately the car behind me was the old bill Sad . He pulled me over, and to be honest I had accepted that I was going to get done, but he had apparently 'forgotten' his book of tickets and let me off with a bollocking Thumbs Up

You need to tell your car insurance about it too. Neutral

Heh, same exact speed as me Very Happy Same punishment too Thumbs Down
You MUST tell your insurance, but don't worry about it increasing your premiums too much. I've just last week insured myself on a bike and therefore did a lot of ringing round. I had at least four companies tell me they didn't care about the first three points, but any more and it'd start to cost. Also, my lady has had three on her licence for years now and it didn't affect her insurance. The three that she just added to it will though Thumbs Down
