Finally Smile

Picked up the bike today, Enfield 500 Classic, and had a lovely hour and a half ride back in the rain. New waterproofs worked a treat, but need new boots and gloves.

Cockup at the importers meant that instead of the kickstart only model, I've got an electric start for no extra charge. Useful for when I stall at lights Smile

I've had gearing changes made so running in will be 50mph for the first 300, miles, 60 for the next and 70 for the remainder of the 1000 mile period, so I'm going to do that over the next week or so. (that's the plan anyway Smile

Now all I need to do is dig out all my Whitworth spanners Smile

Happy happy, joy joy Smile

Interesting bike ShaggyDA what made you go for that? How much did it set you back?

Looks a bit like the SR125 I'm selling only a bit bigger.

Well, as I'm running it in I've not started "throwing it about" yet, but so far it feels very much like like my old AJS (piccy in profile link) - solid, torquey and very relaxed. It'll be a wee while before the brakes bed in nicely, so being drum it's a good job I'm not going above 50 yet Smile

I've had my share of bikes, and the most fun I've had was on my AJS. This is the nearest I can find. It was just short of 3 grand, including mods to gearing, exhaust, carb, speedo, hub.[/quote]

I got it with the understanding it's not a jap bike, and that it requires more maintenance than most bikes. Since I like that, if anything goes awry, I'll fix it Smile

Wotcha.

I bought one of the Indian 500 Bullets when they first came into this country, back in 1991. The original Indian main bearings have just failed - which ain't too bad really.
For the full 'horror story' click THIS
The Bullet is such simple engineering - anything that does fail can easily ( and cheaply ) be put right. Mine's taken me around most of mainland Europe, and, more importantly, got me back again.
