Hi all

I've replaced the battery on my Piaggio NRG, drained the fuel and oil and put some fresh in, new spark plug, and removed and cleaned the carb.

Now its all rebuilt ,I get lights on my dash and when i press the start button, it turns over but does'nt seem to spark and start, just chugs and chugs.

Could i have flooded the engine and if so what should i do?

Will i have to bleed the fuel lines as i've drained the fuel tank etc?

Any advice will be gratefully received

Thank you

Why did you drain the oil tank? And you should of bled the oil lines before trying to start it.

Have you checked for a spark by earthing the threads of the spark plug against the engine and pressing the electric start button?

You could have flooded the engine, i would remove the spark plug, then spin the engine over excess fuel will come out the spark plug hole. Then check for a spark, if you have a spark put the plug back in and try starting the bike again.

And you may need to clean the fuel filter, if the bike has one?

I was adviced buy a guy at work to do it as it has been stood for 4 years and he said it can solidify in the bottom of the tank and in the carb.

Do i just hold the spark plug on to the engine casing when testing it?

How do i drain the oil lines please?

Place the spark plug threads on a metal part of the bike, you can hold the spark plug cap.

The oil lines probably wont need bleeding now but to do it find the oil pump, on it there will be a screw with a Philips head on it. Remove this screw and wait for the oil to flow out of the hole with no air bubbles then replace the screw.

You can see the screw on this pump https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PIAGGIO-50-2-STROKE-OIL-PUMP-NRG-gilera-typhoon-runner-stalker-zip-et2-sr-50r-/370597195374?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item5649506e6e#ht_500wt_1054

Hi mate

I've done all that and got it running, well it starts but i've now got a fuel leak from the carb, it looks like its comming from two little holes under where the throttle cable enters the carb, sort of on the side of the slide housing.

It also stops when i let go of the throttle, is this easy to sort.

Sorry i keep asking you but you seem to know your stuff

thanks

It's leaking because your float valve is stuck or has some crap under it. Strip out the carb and clean it up, inspect the float needle to see that it's moving with the float.

The guy that told you to drain the oil tank is full of it, take no more of his advice.

Thanks for your responce

The float isnt stuck, had the air box off last night and its moving freely.

Is there internal seals and could they have gone?

Was looking at a new carb and was thinking off a 19mm 0ne instead of a standard one. Would this be a stright swap?

Thanks
