So i have been having a strange noise coming from my cbr125 for the last couple of days. The best way to describe it is that it sound like a strimmer, but is hard to hear past 50mph.
What would you guys guess is the problem? if its any help the bike seems to be worse on acceleration, but thats probably just me imagining it.

I would take a video, but my camera is missing Rolling Eyes
Thanks.

Try to determine if the noise is related to road speed or engine speed - if the noise varies with road speed, look at the chain, tyres, wheels and brakes. If it varies with engine speed, it should be a lot easier to track down with the bike stationary and helmet off.

Just had a look now ive got the time.
It seems to be down to engine speed. I can hear it when its in neutral and it seems to get louder and faster as i go up the gears. It also seems to have gotten louder after i took the bike out last.

What would be causing this?

Whip the plastics off and see if there is a noise from the top end of the engine.

What mileage are you on?

Also, when the side fairing is off, check the mounts, they sometimes get loose Thumbs Up

17k is close to the "20k and my bearings failed" mark I've seen and experienced loads.

How long have you owned it? If the engine starts sounding a little tappy on the top end whip the rocker cover off and check the cam for any play.

Usually no one cleans the mesh filter as its hassle and this blocks the oil way to the cam, killing stuff up there Thumbs Down

Owned it since june, but only been riding it since september and it spent most of the winter not being used.

Just an update for anyone interested.
Had someone come have a look at the bike. Turns out the radiator was leaking, so now i need to get a new one Evil or Very Mad My guess is that it caused the engine to overheat.
I noticed it leaking ages ago. I was just too much of a lazy prick to look Sad

There was leaking water comming from the bike which we tracked down to the radiator.
Im actually not all that certain that it overheated. I was told that something about air in the tube may be making the temp gauge faulty, but im not that convinced, it seemed to behave like it usually has.

Anyway the bike has to be MOTd in 2 weeks, so il get a new radiator and pass that then get the guy i just had look at it give it a closer look at and hopefully get the noise sorted out.
