So early this morning, on my way to work down some country lanes, I was being harrassed by some T*** in an Audi Q7 and almost dropped the bike on the corner..

Felt the back wheel going out from under me and had to catch it with my foot before it dropped!

What is the best way to take a corner ( Stupid question i know ) but please humour me lol

Thanks all

Get your speed to the correct speed for the corner before you get to the corner.
Adjust your body position
Slight bit of throttle whilst in the corner increasing as you come out of the corner
Remember: "slow in, fast out"

Sounds like you were going too fast for the conditions. Would of been best to pull over and let the audi past

I actually worried that id slowed down too much on the corner, ill just have to put it down to experience!

Shook me for a moment, but we all have to start somewhere right!

Thanks for the reply Smile

If someone is harassing you, or forcing to ride in a way which you aren't comfortable with, pull over and let them pass Thumbs Up

Your cornering will be much smoother when you don't have a Prat Bus up your backside.

If you're being hassled, either pull over, slow right down until they finally get up the bottle to pass, or for bonus larks, swing to the RHS of the road and brake to make them undertake. Wink

Sometimes, the only option is to pull over safely and let the idiot pass, but most of the time, you should be able to keep well ahead by planning your position and speed into and out of the corners well in advance - same technique as for a car, but you have a lot more road to play with on a bike Smile

Cornering is all about judgement. There is a fast left-right bend near where I live which with my MPV I can only take at about 30mph, on my 50cc weed whacker scooter I can do it at 40mph.

It’s all about getting your weight and position right on the bike as much as it is about speed and grip of the bike. Look ahead and well into the corner. I remember a biker years ago telling me, look where your going and the bike will follow Smile

Knee down, rear wheel on fire at 200mph Thumbs Up

But srsly, just take corners easy - slow down before it, lean into it and accelerate out. Don't brake if you are in a corner, it WILL end badly. If you do need to brake in a corner, get the bike upright as quick as possible and if you find yourself going too fast into a corner then just lean it through, the bike will hold. Smile

Be in the right gear to have enough power to pull yourself straight out the corner.

Look where you want to go, don't look at the curb!

Use the throttle to control your speed going through, not the brakes unless you HAVE to

Play around on smaller corners you're familiar with and get a feel for them! Rear brake and drop a gear and see what happens when you try and turn Laughing Danger!

I really think experimentation is a big helper for me.

I miss my bike now, feels like it's been forever Crying or Very sad

Yes - you can brake whilst cornering, but you need to fully understand what happens to the bike when you do, and how to counter it, so you don't end up rubber-side-up.

The effect will vary with different bikes, riders and road conditions - so best to practice gently somewhere safe to determine what works best for you.

Once you've skidded the back wheel a couple of times by mistake you get used to the feel of it and the limits of the brakes

Don't overthink it Thumbs Up

People driving up your backside can be an issue but just forget about them. If your in front of them on the road you have every right to ride in a way you feel comfortable with, because if you bin it they won't be picking up the tab for you.

Next time you feel like you've taken a corner too fast just lean more.
