..And I meet the back of a Renault Megane.

Safe to say it hurt Sad.

I was travelling to work down a popular bikers route to Camberley from Woking and came across 4 cars infront of me on a straight, after passing the first 3 fine and them moving over for me I come across a dark red Renault, the guys riding his brakes like a pro so I dropped back to 2-3 cars length.

As I'm coming round the final sweeping right onto the straight where I planned to take the guy and carry on with my journey. I glance down at the speedo (I'm doing 35mph in a 40), I look up and the guys starting to slow down. I had the brakes covered ready to stop due to him having ridden the brakes for the last few twisties, the gap between us was still a good 1.5-2 cars length.

All of a sudden Mr. A. SS. Hole. decides to stop dead in the middle of the road, So I'm left to practice my emergency stop so soon after passing my CBT.

I hit my brakes and swerve off to the left but didn't swerve enough and clipped the back of the Renault, Resulting in bent forks, bent wheel, smashed front lights, snapped clutch lever and bent expansion pipe (from what I could see so far, it was dark).

It hasn't deterred me at all and I'm now off to the yamaha centre to get some parts.

Injuries to me are minor considering the circumstances. My thumb was bent back the other way and ripped the connecting skin, or web, between that and the index finger, bruising and a few possibly broken ribs, broken thumb and sprained wrist.

I think I came off lightly and thankfully it was a relatively slow collision, compared to some of the roads around there that are 70mph+.

Thumbs Down

Probably not what you want to hear while nursing pain and a broken bike, but :-

If you run in the back its your fault. Him stopping suddenly for no apparent reason or not.

You say you have just passed your CBT and by your own words imply you were not 100% confident with an emergency stop.

Until you rectify that slow down. Unless of course you have lots of money for bike parts and enjoy physical pain.

Valuable lesson learned hopefully without too serious consequences. Smile

I completely agree, although I aced the emergency stop on my CBT training.

The are a few other factors which are a little suss, I overheard the fella talking to the copper and his words were 'I lost all power'.. Why would you hit the brakes with such force for that?

You don't know this forum do you?

Anything you do wrong, don't share!

3.2.1... It's your fault crew!

Sorry that you crashed but the CBT does teach the 2 second rule or at least always be prepared for someone to stop. This will save your life or at least insurance issues.

The CBT emergency stop doesn't have a car in front. If what you do in a car park or even a bike test is how it will be on the road then no one will crash.

Look at SMIDGSY or whatever it is. Basically riding defensively.

Whether his excuse was right or wrong, even if he said he saw an elephant, insurers will say you were in the wrong because you were behind.

Assuming you are going through insurance?

It's a early lesson learnt, maybe after a bit of experience you may be able to brake in time but from what you've said you were too close for your ability to stop so for next time give yourself more room.

Assume everyone on the road is an idiot and wants you off your bike. Expect the worse to happen and act accordingly.

In this case if you treat the car infront as to do an emergency stop or a suprise U turn then you will be more prepared for it and in a better position to avoid it.

It doesn't matter what the reason was. He did.!

And would have been no consolation to your family if you had hit the back of him at 40 that you had mitigating circumstances and were a new rider.

Hope you fix your bike soon and have a fantastic time. The summer is (hopefully) coming. Very Happy

Nick.

Bummer dude, as I said in the other thread it's your fault, but maybe the copper will fill in his report that the driver acted dangerously by slamming on for no apparent reason.

I just thought of why he did it. You see it alot when bikes or cars are too close then the driver infront will try and hint for you to back off by touching the brakes till they get so annoyed you are to close they will slam the brakes on.

Most probably the guy has a chip on his shoulder for bikers and just doesn't like them near him?

No insurance involved, I'm TPFT and his car came off with a scuff. He was more worried about me and I was more worried about the bike and my helmet LOL.

It seems he isn't too fussed about insurance and I'm hoping it's all sorted without insurance cos I don't need tobe claiming 2 days in.

I'm gonna jump straight back into it.

Thanks fellas Thumbs Up

Why? He might? It was dangerous!

Won't change the fault outcome of course.

Noooooooooo. I was not concerned about the missing 'O' in fact I had not registered it until you pointed it out.

It was the 'Too close' bit. i.e. too close to stop in an emergency.

Nick.

Here read this thread T.C made fairly recently, and point your insurance to the case in question. it might help.

I'd have thought that legally a good proportion of the blame would lay on the driver.

From other stuff on here we've seen that if say a dog runs in to the road you should NOT perform an emergency stop etc to avoid it if there's a vehicle behind you which you could endanger.
During your test you are told to check your mirrors before adjusting speed.

When it may be an inexperienced road user who's only been riding for a day and a half, we see why this rule exists. Certainly the driver should have also seen the L plates and realised this was an inexperienced.

Of course the accident could have been avoided by the bike too; but it does seem the car driver either intentionally or negligently was the main cause of the accident.
