Housing options, issues at home, lengthy whiney b/s.

As title states, need some advice.

Been living back with my parents for a few months following issues with a very dodgy landlord, the variety that has plug sockets hanging out the wall near a fucking GAS MAIN with fuses wrapped in tin foil...we were renting a room, so after we'd painted it it looked alright...communal areas however?

And that wasnt the worst of it...but it was £50 a week, no deposit & availible instantly, we diddnt have anywhere else to go, and pizza boy money doesnt get you a palace. Needs must.

Had the row with the landlord/boss at the time and ended up loosing my job and being given a weeks notice to get the fuck out. Moved back in with her parents, sister had a kid, we had to move out. Screaming baby & a total lack of sleep already wasnt going to be a good combination with the epilepsy and the damn bike. Asking for a fit (read loss of licence, thus job & a potential squished head)

Moved to my parents house...everythings fine, then they kick off about how much electricity we're using although we both work very long hours and are never in...alright, whatever £10 a week, get on with it. They're not short of money either - just paid for the little brother to piss off to south africa for a week with college & spend more than a tenner a week in petrol running him backwards and forwards to the train or whatever. He's not asked to pay a penny as he's in education, which is fair enough i suppose, but if the finance situation was that bad surely he could walk to the train, or pay his own bus fare like i did at that age? Well, no i was driving a fuckin hijet (jap rascal clone) but thats besides the point.

I've had a few bad weeks at work due to a breakdown, meaning over the last two weeks i've earned £60. I have to supply my own petrol to work (courier..) so couldnt pay rent. Their answer? Hide all the post that comes for me. I'm now getting final demand letters from the insurance company about a car policy i cancelled saying i owe £800+ or debt collectors will be called out, and missing parts for the bike...Sprocket bolt, drive rubbers. Had to order in the sprocket bolt elsewhere as a result of this.

I found out, went apeshit explaining that if i couldnt work, how can i pay the rent? showed my payslips showing that i just diddnt have the money to give them, and was told to get stuffed. They were keeping the post till they got their money. End of. Where do i stand with that legally? I mean its their house, but if the posts adressed to me is that not a degree of theft or whatever? I cant claim it back from paypal as it was sent recorded, and they've signed for it.

At which point the old man walks off, i follow after him pretty fucked off by this point, cue mistake number one; stood infront of the car shouting something along the lines of "i need my fucking parts to go to work to get you your money, im skint, you saw the papers I DONT HAVE ANYTHING TO GIVE YOU" so he boots it off the drive, i go up on the bonnet, he swerves up the road and i get launched over the other side as he fucks off. Bit of road rash on my arse and elbow, smacked my head pretty bad on the deck and nearly went under the beemer coming the other way...very pleased he had ABS! Anyway, guy in the beemer gets me up, asks if im okay, fine yeah whatever mate, dont worry bout it, cheers, no dont get the old bill, no i dont need an ambulance, yes im still breathing its all good and all that bollocks.

Went in, got lid, got on bike, fucked off to other halfs parents. Get told by them to get the fuck up the hospital, head injury, concussion etc. 3hrs and two xray's later its deemed that im FINE, shoulder and collarbone are fine and it's just whiplash causing the back & neck pain. Slight issue at the moment with turning neck to the right, stiff as you like and hurts like a bastard which is making work awkward at best.

The old mans been on a downer again, stopped taking his pills and shit. I dont want to get social/the nuthouse involved or anything like that, the hospital were quite insistant that that i needed to contact someone, however they couldnt force me to do anything as over the age of 18. Not an option.

Spoke to the council before about getting some kind of housing, and the best they could offer was a "rent deposit bond scheme" that we couldnt find a single landlord that accepts it! We dont score enough points to get on the housing list...i mean if we had a kid we'd be laughing. Nice new 2 bed flat in the centre of town & enough benifits to give up work completely. Not my thing. Wont do it on moral grounds. So cant get shit through the council

UNLESS;

My parents write a letter stating that we have x amount of weeks to move out, that we arent allowed to live there anymore. Which im being threatened with on a daily basis right now, my mothers answer to "you realise i just got hit with the fucking car?" was "your stuff will be in the road too in a minuite", however as soon as i say that i need said letter, i've written it, sign on the dotted line and we're gone they turn round and say "no, wont sign it till you give us the money we're owed" (relating to some cash they loaned me around three years ago to get a car with...every time i paid them back £50 the amount dropped by a tenner...that kind of shit) Then go on to state that if i apply for housing and they call up they contact them they'll claim its all bollocks, that im just trying to get a free house, that theres nothing wrong and that i've got a secure home here.

However;

The other halfs parents have said theyre willing to write a b/s letter claiming we've been living there for the past year, but they need our room to convert into a baby room for the little un, and we've got to get out.

This would then get us the required points and get us a move, but i REALLY dont like the idea, as i've always been dead against benifit fraud, and thats what it technicly comes down to isnt it? If the systems right, then thats me taking a house off someone who needs it more than me.

Realy fucking stressing about this at the moment, i'm not sleeping very well at all. Put all my soaking wet bike gear on the radiator, had it put in a pile on my bed. Explained that i'd have to be working in it tomorrow and i needed to get it dry to be told "not my problem" so had to stay up all night and dry it out infront of the fireplace, basicly guarding it incase someone woke up and turned it all off. Cant leave the oven alone whilst cooking dinner cause it gets turned off. Other half wont usually leave our room if im not there, just generally shite tbh. I mean i shit you not, im genuinely BANNED from using the bathroom in the evening. If i want a bath i may have one in the morning after everyones gone to work...if i get a fucking callout at 6am like today?



I dont know where i turn from here tbh, i know the old man cant help it cause of all this shit wrong with him (genuinely had him booing saying he was sorry when i got in, and then ten minuites later claiming it was my fault and i must have tripped over the kerb), my mothers struggling to deal with him, aswell as just loosing my grandad and caring for him over the past few years, so somethings gotta give i suppose. Mates and relatives all insist she needs to see someone cause somethings not quite right there.

I've tried to be sympathetic but if im realy honest i'm beyond caring about the fucking lot of em, lightswitch mentality, its either "OHHH EMM GEEE let me help you with that " or "FUCK OFF AND DIE IN A FIRE " no happy medium whatsoever.

Is there some kind of emergency housing solution/charity/helpline or well anything that sorts that out? any way of getting bumped up the list? totally lost with it all. Spending all the time i can at work to try and get the cash together for a deposit somewhere, but if they'll take me without a guauntuer (spelt very wrongly, someone correct me) then the place is either a shithole like before, the deposit is REALY steep, or the rent is realy realy steep. Whats the point going for that and ending up broke, not being able to pay the bills and stuck in the same situation a few months down the line.

Thing is by going through all the mass of paperwok and info on the council website im not actually entitled to anything, had i been under the age of 18 then social would get involved at the hospital and i'd have been put into some sort of temporary accomodation. Assuming i do what the other halfs rents suggested, whats to stop my parents from reporting me for said fraud? Thats then big fines, crim record, homeless and definately not getting any help from the council for a few years.

Not to mention me being the biggest hypocrit ever.

However, have you considered dealing with your problems in ways other than having rows and kicking off? Someone's got to be the grown up, and it doesn't sound like your boss(es) and parents are minded to do it.

I can't offer you any advice really except maybe try to get more work. £60 a week is NOT enough! Barely more than the dole-ites!

You know with your hours you could sign on as well? If you work under 16 hours. That could bump your income up (i know being on the dole is fucking horrible)
But it's legally there for you and that's what it's there for

Ah, the job relating to the first "home" ended last year. After i complained, the guy started giving me all the shitty jobs, told him to go fuck and went couriering.

However, the couriering is done on a self employed basis. Thus no sick pay, and if the bike/car/van whatever breaks down and you cant work, you dont get no monies besides the odd "drivers mate" jobs whereby you've got to help unload and stuffz. On an average week i'll take home somewhere between £250-300 and do about £60 over the week in food/fuel bills whilst im out and about. 16 hours? Did a bloody 12hr day on weds in the pissing rain! Unfourtunately, you're paid on mileage and not hourly.

Thus when the YBR spat out a sprocket bolt and mullered the chain tensioner, i couldnt get ahold of anything else that was the right length that'd do the job propperly and safely. Tried it on a standard bolt and caught it on test ride just before it mullered the new tensioner. Wasnt worth the risk running on three bolts IMO. Ordered bolt online, no show, ordered bolt at Inta's, got it a few days ago, went to laguna's after a week who got it on 48hr delivery for me.

Dont see theres much choice in not rowing is there? I mean, i've tried talking, explaining my point nicely, reasoning, offering to make up the backpayments when i've got the money etc and got nowhere. Short of being equally childish, or holding them up at gunpoint im out of bright ideas. Whatever i say, and or do is turned into an argument thats my fault. And if i should prove that it's not something i'm responsible for then we go back round full circle to "you owe me money". I mean i know my social skills are far from brilliant, but even i know thats not quite the way its supposed to go.

Time for you to turn the tables on them. Invest in a HD camera to gather evidence of what is happening, and look to call in the social yourself regarding your parents mental health. If your dad is having moodswings etc and your mother isnt far behind get some evidence to back you up. At the least it will let the social see why getting the letter is so difficult, at the same time change your mailing address.

Not sure if this is much help, or if it's been mentioned already (read your post, not everyone else's,) but "Shelter" are supposed to be quite helpful in situations like this. It was mentioned in another thread, but might be worth looking them up and see if they can help you out with advice, or getting a place?

I cant offer much help on the housing side of things. But it seems that you either need to trick the council to get them to listen or find some money to get out of there.

Though it seems to me that you need a better job, surely a simple shop assistant job is going to pay more? And with the big companies you will get a contract which means at least a consistent secure income. You can go back to courier work once your back on your feet, or even on your days off to bump up the pay.

The larger companies (supermarkets etc) will pay ok. With Tesco's and M&S being known as the highest paid, around £6.50-£7.00 per hour. And due to their size they usually have a fairly automated way of hiring, say the right things and your in.

Yes, I have some housing advice. Get yourself down to your local YMCA...explain your situation, they help out young people like yourself. It will help that you have an income (however small). They aren't bad accommodation. And, they offer all sorts of advice, they have people on hand to help out with getting you any benefits you might be entitled to, etc.

Have to agree with some of the above posts on courier work, it sounds fairly shit, no offence intended.

Working in a supermarket or similar, even if worse paid, is likely better for you right now because you can get by without any of your own equipment.

You want to be paying for rent or lodging, food, utilities and nothing else while you get back on your feet.

Bikes and cars are luxuries you get when you have a bit of money spare, otherwise you end up stuck in the poverty trap. If anything goes wrong on the bike, you're fucked, you need to shell out big bucks pronto and get it sorted otherwise you'll get sacked.

It wouldn't be benefit fraud if you're in genuine need of housing. If the Mrs parents are willing to write a letter that will allow you to get social housing then why not do it? Your parents are clearly unbalanced and don't want you living there. I'd say for your personal safety you shouldn't stay with them any longer. If your father has no qualms about running you over with his car, then he's seriously failed in his role as a parent and therefore should not be treated as one. He's now the as$hole landlord who ran you over with his car.
