My first ever track day and it was absolutely pissing it down for the first half of the day until early afternoon Sad dryed up a little bit towards the end but still standing water on the track in places! Only had road tyres on so it was a wee bit slippy in places and the front was sliding quite a few times through gerrard's!

Got a little mix I recorded off my decks as the music Smile very light compared to what I normally DJ though Laughing

Thumbs Up

Good vid and good music taste! Most of those tunes are in my own collection!

Surprising how much you can get away with in the damp with properly warm tyres. Remember my last trackday in the wet at Mallory had the front tucking going through the hairpin and me leaning on the wall to keep it upright Laughing

Spinning up going through the esses is just fun.

Thanks mate!

Yeah it was fun finding the limits of the tyres, wish it had been dry though! You can sort of see how wet it was at some points in the video but the first few sessions there were full on streams on water on the track which you just had to let the front slide through which was a bit Shocked at times especially through devils elbow!

You doing many track days this year? Would be good to link up with a few people from here for one or two!

I wouldn't mind doing a track-day, but as a beginner, I'm not sure where to start or what I need, etc etc. Looks great fun, though I don't think I'd be pushing round some of those bends like you were. Excellent effort for your first time. Shame you didn't record in HD though.

Holy shit!

I wouldn't even be going that fast in the dry lol.

Great fun on the track though, Donington was great. The bikes give you so much confidence in the corners and the brakes are nothing short of fantastic.

We'll have to get something sorted for the summer!

I'll be less of a pussy next time too Razz.

Do it, was such a good day! Smile

You don't need anything to do it really, just your bike and full leathers. I got a trailer and fitted a tow bar to my mates car to save me riding to the tracks and back but you don't really need it if the track isn't that far away (I was very happy to not have to ride home in the crap weather after though because I was completely shattered).

I took it easy in the morning to get a feel for it then just kept upping the pace slowly and ended up flying around the outside of people Laughing was only the novice group though, might go for the inters next time I'm at Mallory and see if I can keep up!

I did record in 720p on the GoPro but Adobe Premier Elements 9 only processed it at 420p Sad might try different software next time!

Haha, the guys in the fast group were properly going for it trust me, would of left me standing still!

Definitely up for getting something sorted! Looking at Rockingham in two weekends time hopefully if my funds allow, going to try do one every month this year if I can Very Happy possibly could fit one in either at the beginning or end of June if not July if you are up for it?

June/ July sounds good!

Kinda restricted to a few tracks though, as I can't do any MSV ones or book through focused events as I mentioned.

Everyones saying just go for it, but I'd rather not risk it as its a fair amount of money!

Going to look at getting a trailer and towbar for my car though, riding to the tracks isn't fun and not being able to get home after if you crash isn't to appealing Razz

Only till september though.

Ah you still got a restricted licence? What tracks can you do?

I don't really think about crashing to be honest Laughing I think if you are too worried about it you won't be as relaxed and might cause a crash because of it. I just get my head down, try be as smooth as I can and keep a roll on through the corners going!

Yeah that's what I've done, picked up a trailer for £130 off ebay which is in really good nick and a tow bar for my mates car for £80 and he drives for me for petrol money and lunch ect.

The 2 big ones near me were Silverstone and Donington (when I say near I mean less that 150 miles lol)

No limits aren't running any at Silverstone until August, focused events are but they're really picky apparently and they won't let me book with them until my restriction is up.

I'll probably look at Donington again, then when restriction is up in September do Brands and a few others.

Yeah, you're right if you go with that attitude for sure! The bike is great fun though and you soon forget!

Near farnborough, not a million miles from you at all.

They didn't check at Dony either, which was a good job considering I only had my photo card with me!

It would be either the 19th june or the 5th july?

5th July could be done, I will probably be a bit skint in June because I'm going to Italy for my brothers wedding and I've got to get the MOT done on the bike!

What group you going to go in?

Ahh yeah cool, that sounds good!

I'll be in novice again, not very confident yet.

I assume you didn't manage any knee downs because it was wet?

I tried pretty hard, but looking at the photos I've got a way to go yet and before I start running out of tyre/ grinding the pegs out. If you're that quick in the wet though, you might start running into clearance issues, so take some tooks to take the side stand off!

What group you going to try?

Nah I didn't Sad looking back at the on board from behind me I wasn't that far off in places though! If I had known that I might of pushed a tiny bit harder and stuck my knee out more. Laughing

You got a copy of twist of the wrist 2? Watch that a couple of times and practice what they say on the road then take it on to the track and you will get quicker and quicker. Smile

The side stand is already off on my bike, I've taken the metal 'peg' off the bottom of my rear sets as well because I kept scraping them on the road before my knee was going down and the left one stuck in and caused a 'oh shit' moment on a ride last month. Laughing

Not sure what group to try because I don't know the track, I would love to be able to start off in the morning in the novice group then do the afternoon sessions in inters once I've learnt the track to see if I can keep up! How quickly did you learn the track when you went?

Yeah I saw on the vid you were really close! Loving how you sail round the outside of some guy on a CBR6 too all track prepped at one point:P. What tyres were you running btw?

I'm going to watch that over the next few weeks I think. Everyone recommends it!

Ahh you're sorted then. So you have had KD on yours? Yeah the blobs on the pegs are dangerous Laughing

It's a fairly easy track to ride, but getting the lines right in places is hard! Last year I struggled with the lines a lot, but this year I was on the apex pretty much every corner, all be it going slow Laughing

I'd probably say start in the Novice, if you're really quick they'll bump you up a group anyway but the novice groups have been fairly fast there the last 2 times I've been.

I'll have a look a link the best photos! You got any too?

Heres a couple of good ones:

https://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/75513_10150682225442167_598102166_9641481_1375901661_n.jpg

My fav:

The most frustrating one, on the basis that it was the furthest I leant over all day and if i'd stuck my knee out more it would be so close:

I was running 2cts that are a bit worn out now (see my thread in racing & trackdays for pictures) I wasn't sure what pressures I was running though, I knew I had to let them down but had to do it with a very basic gauge I borrowed off someone there. I just popped it on and the process let enough air out to get the back to roughly 28 and the front to 30 and I was like that will do. Laughing

Ah I will probably just go for the novice group then and see how it goes!

Pictures look good mate, yeah that last one looks like you pretty much have the lean angle just try hanging off a little bit more and get your head right to the side and low, like you would be looking through the mirror if it was there and you will nail it soon! Try dropping your inside shoulder as low as you can as well, that should give you a good position.

I haven't had knee down on the FZ yet but have on all my other bikes, might go do a bit of roundabout surfing when it's sunny to do it or I will at Rockingham in 2 weeks if it's dry. Thumbs Up

Yeah, its weird. Seem to be more confident at leaning on the left but my body position is better on the right.

I'll bring my shoulder down, that should help. Thanks for that!

28 and 30 is spot on for these.

Ahh well let me know how it goes/ get up some pics for rockingham! just hope its dry!

Im hoping to at least get one trackday in this year! Will be on my TRX though.

Not had it on track yet so will probably stick myself in the inters.

Mallory don't tend to be overly bothered about checking your licence. I did quite a few trackdays there when restricted.

Id quite like to do Cadwell though this year as ive been to most other tracks.

Last 'day i did was the Silverstone GP circuit. First time id ever been there and the only spaces left were in the fast group Laughing . Didnt do too badly ( even though my lines were crap as i had no idea where i was going, just trying to tag onto other riders!) on my old 'crashed/fightered' zx6r with renthal bars on.

Maybe we should squeeze another one in at Mallory while you're still on your restriction Dom if you're up for it?

I want to do Cadwell park but it's too far north to drive on the day so would need to crash at my sisters in Sheffield the night before and going to do that already for Donington & Oulton park in July!

Quite enjoyed that video actually, silverstone looks like such a nice track! You're not doing that bad at all seeing as you didn't know it! Laughing

Sorry missed this! Yeah, I'm up for one at Mallory later in the year. Let me know what date you're thinking and I'll see if I can make it.

Yeah it will take a couple of sessions to learn the right lines I think so that you are using every bit of track but would be wicked fun to blast round once you have learnt it I reckon!

Oh yeah I got my knee down on the fz yesterday by the way, I had been out for a rinse so thought I would finish it off with a bit of roundabout surfing. Nice to have that scraping feeling again, looking forward to Rockingham at the weekend even more now, just hope it's dry!
