Indeed.
I was watching Annie Lennox and Bowie in front of thousands of people at Wembley, performing Under Pressure and imagine kids look back at them then and think, they’re not as ‘wacky’ as lady gaga for example. They’ve got no idea, it wasn’t just for the look, it was 100% them and what they were. Pure music form.

There's always an element of look and fashion to music. It makes you stand out from the usually bland (but sometimes equally talented) crowd. It gets you a following, inspired by your cool look, and makes you marketable by a label. It's never 100% them, especially with major label involvement.
The only artist who I can say his look was 95% him and not purely a fashion is GG Allin. He was a fuck up train wreck junkie. Even then there was an element of the act. Back when he was touring with the Scumfucs/Murder Junkies/Texas Nazis/whatever incarnation of garage rock n roll band, he was doing a show where he did the usual, shit, piss on stage, hurl it at the audience, assault the audience and supposedly try and chase/rape/molest some girl in the crowd, and whoever was the promoter (I think it was Nick Zedd) shook his head, because GG had gone too far, so he backed down and continued the cutting himself, self abuse, whatever part of the show, because that's all it is, a show, even when you're the most outrageous enfant terrible in the underground hardcore punk scene.

I don't think you understand Lady Gaga then.
Out of all the artists out there with identikit styles, an honoury track with David Guetta, with the same songwriters as 75% of other artists Lady Gaga is actually very individual.
I've watched quite a few documentaries about her and actually i'm watching her show at Madison Square Gardens right now and she is just an amazing performer. She writes a lot of her own material, she designs a lot of her outfits, she always sings live and has a cracking voice to boot.
It's probably not cool for a man in his early twenties who is straight and quite grumpy to like her music, but I have both of her albums and despite the fact I despised her when she first came onto the scene and a lot of her earlier released material was very mainstream, her albums have some great work in them.
She is very crazy and really pushes some boundaries, but she is to the 2010's what Madonna was to the 1980/90's. Postmodern.
Hopefully unlike Madonna she will know when to call it a day.

I got standing tickets for Faith No More at Brixton on July 10th a couple of hours ago 
Missed out on the Apollo one's that went on sale this morning due to mithering for 5 minutes as they only had standing tickets left at the back of the balcony which apparently has an awful view. I then thought I'd go anyway, and they too had sold by then.
Last saw them at Brixton in 1997, and the face value of the ticket was £12.00. This one's three times as much
They still appear to have some tickets left for that one too if anyone was interested...

I think the tendency is to look back with a certain amount of rosy tints in your glasses. Sure a lot of good music came out of previous decades (60s, 70s etc), but equally a hell of a lot of shit got churned out too - the difference being that in time the dross fades away and the cream floats to the top.
Maybe in 30 years time we'll be looking back with our rose tints on and thinking 'yeah, that ga-ga was awesome, the stuff in the charts nowadays is just crap'.
Equally, I recall a conversation I had with a mate's Dad sometime in the early 90's: we were talking music, and I was telling him how good I thought Bowie (in his Ziggy Stardust phase) was.
He remarked that back in those days he viewed Bowie in the same light as we (then) would view someone like Jason Donovan - essentially churning out low-rate pop drivel for the delight of teeny-bop girls.
Seems it's all just a matter of perspective.

She's smart, don't get me wrong, the whole "lady gaga has a dick" was the thing that drove her to popularity and she spoke openly about the rumours

Bowie shagged Slash's mother, so the rumours go.
GnR are ok to a point with some of their music standing the test of time, but they are a one trick poney, where Bowie and Iggy have spread their wings far and wide and are seen as Artists, nut just musicians.
