Hey all new to the site but looks like a good community.
Anyway I've had a 50cc for 2 years now and am looking to upgrade to a 125cc motorcycle. I've just turned 18 and have a few questions:

Obviously I did my CBT for my moped but will I need to take any more tests?

Are these all decent and legal bikes
ZONTES TIGER 125 cc ZT125-3A
LIFAN APOLLO 125 cc
SINNIS MAX QM125-2V
LEXMOTO ARROW 125 cc
?

Thanks for all your help, if you have any further tips they'd be great too.

Ben ( did this on my iPad so sorry couldnt format or hyperlink better)

I know nothing about the bikes.
But I notice you did your CBT for a 50cc 2 years ago.
I hope you've renewed your CBT,as they only last for 2 years.

the CBT is the same for a twist and go or a geared bike.

As you're thinking of getting a geared bike, it would be best to do it
on a geared bike, that's if you haven't got any previous experience on gears.

But you can do it on a twist and go and the CBT is still valid for geared bikes.

Itll still be valid for 2 years, still need to have L plates etc

Basic advice for a new rider is to buy a second hand Japanese 125, and get your tests done on it ASAP before Jan 2013 when the new licencing laws come in.

A bit less than that will get you a nice YBR125. You'll have to wait for someone else to chime in on which year is the best.

For that much there's loads of choice in the second hand market, stay away from those chinky bike you mentioned in your OP.
Honda is arguably the best for reliability etc then you have the likes of kawasaki, yamaha, suzuki you wont go far wrong with any of them.

The Lexmoto Arrow should be "OK" as far as Chinese branded bikes go, but the DSA list it as an A1 bike not suitable for the standard 125cc test.

£1500 (or a bit less) gets you a YBR or CBF 125. Nab one that's just turned 3 years old and got its first MOT.

Out of the list I gave the lexmoto was my favourite but no so sure now I've heard to avoid Chinese bikes.

I don't really want a CBF too common and sporty

Really like the YBR, found a nice 10 plate for £1600. How much will insurance be roughly, as I said I'm 18yo male with nearly 2 years of no claims with moped?

....................
EDIT - the one I've found is the custom version, is this learner legal too?

Insurance quotes are a minefield, what is cheap for us might be expensive for you.

Try www.thebikeinsurer.tv for quotes, I got my insurance there

And I wouldn't worry about what's sporty or not on a 125, just get something good, reliable, and easy to ride and do your tests Thumbs Up then you can get something awesome

£450 for a YBR with nearly 2 years no claims.

Sod that.

Try third party f+t cover.

YBRs can be in the normal style or cruiser (custom) both are legal.

CG/YBR/DT/XR/CB/GS/GN/EN - all of those are japanese 125s you can look at.

Thats the first time I've heard the CBF referred to as sporty.... Laughing

Also on the menu worth considering are Hyosung's and Kymco's

It may be wrong to say this, but I've always kind of fancied a Vanvan
