After passing it's mot and getting insured, I thought I'd take my gz125 out for an "A" road blast today and following a 4-5 mile warm up I opened up the throttle and achieved the eye watering terminal speed of 57mph Cool (Indicated- don't want to get ahead of myself Laughing )

I have, of course, done some custom (anti) performance mods, these include chrome pannier brackets, chrome sissy bar, and highly aerodynamically challanged panniers.

Just wondering if my marauder can take the trophy for the slowest straightline top speed of any modern(ish) 125 in good running order (doesn't count if the bike is in poor mechanical condition) on bcf? So go ahead and post your indicated top speeds if you're feeling lucky...

(I say modern-ish because my grandpa had a bsa 125 bantam in the 50's which could apparently only do 40-45mph flat out even when the engine was running as sweet as a nut).

My NSR tops out at 1 Mile per year. Because that's all it's done in over a year.

My CG was good for about 50, but then it was probably in 'questionable' mechanical condition as it often decided 30mph was all it could do.

I managed to hit 60 indicated on the Sanya. It may have gone quicker but I chickened out cos it was vibrating a bit too much for my liking! Perfect running order though Very Happy .

My baby Varadero has regularly clocked 75mph on the level (GPS) with a slightly adjusted engine and a 15 tooth front sprocket, and 68mph with the standard 14 tooth sprocket.

Once got up to over 80mph on the long downhill stretch from Redditch to Bromsgrove on the A448, but never managed to get over 70mph in the opposite direction.

The bike is at it's best between 50 and 60mph - there's not enough power to manoeuvre safely at higher speeds.

I've had my little CBR upto 60 with a slight headwind. I then noticed it became a sidewind so I slowed down because I touched cloth.

"Touched cloth" - thank you for that. I haven't heard that phrase in years. I will now try and re-introduce it into daily conversation. English is a glorious language.

My old CG125 once reached 60, but it was a cloth touching experience. 50 was a lot more relaxing.

I've clocked my Aprilia Classic 125 at around 62ish on a digital speedo I fitted. Not sure how accurate it is though...need to measure it against my GPS or find a measured mile nearby.

It was revving around 8K and due to the lack of power-valve wouldn't go much higher...

My 1998 CG125 can hit just over 60 indicated on the straight. But a very slight incline or a headwind can reduce that to 55. Almost 70mph is possible downhill

I've ran my bike with the throttle wound fully open for an hour's journey down the A12 a few times, that was before I learnt you're not really supposed to treat a 125cc that way. It coped fine.

Is it 62.5 your bike has to be capable of for Mod2?

If I push it my CG will do (indicated) about 65mph but neither myself or the bike is happy at that.

Throw a headwind and an incline into the equation and that 'performance' will collapse in a right royal fashion. Rolling Eyes

Nick.

You're not wrong Smile My Vanvan struggles to hit 60 without a decent following wind..and that's even after I lost 4 stone in weight!

Well I weigh a majestic 10 stone and the gz doesn't top 57- Although I did have 60 out of her today although that was after 20 off miles flat out on A roads so she was running at 100%. It took a good mile of straight road to get there though. From what I've read people seem to take pot luck regarding the top speed of the marauders and van vans, weight doesn't seem much of a factor. Although I can imagine the van van being far quicker to it's top speed than the marauder. Actually, I can imagine a one legged Bulgarian prostitute being faster to 60mph than the marauder Laughing Good fun though

Just noticed the gross over use of the word "although". Although I don't think this is a problem.

My CBR would do 80mph on a flat road with a little head wind. Fully standard too! (Apart from an Evo-tech exhaust hanger, and little indicators to make it super lightweight!)

So not really a contender in the "Slowest" competition.
