Need help deciding, any other choices are welcomed but comparebroadband showed the following:

Sky: £120.00 pa
Talktalk: £130.50 pa
BT: £162.00 pa

All 14mb/s, all unlimited.

I ordered broadband with Sky.
It didn't go through on the activation date and had to be re-ordered.
They re-ordered it and I waited another week.
The phone line became active but no broadband.
Phoned 'em up to ask them about the broadband.
"Oh, they've only put the line order through, it'll take another week"

During that time I was put on hold for 12 minutes by some girl who clearly knew nothing about broadband. Hung up and re-dialled, and was offered my installation fee credited to my bill. Never happened, phone up... no recollection of it every happening.

Fuck Sky.

As for BT - Call Centres outside the UK make it difficult to get decent support.

TalkTalk once tried to force me to sign with them for broadband, while I was with Tiscali. Had to phone up and kick off because they were being very pushy about it.

Avoid 'em all.

If you don't want phone or TV, I've been with o2 at uni for 8 months and all is well. 4 heavy users in our house and no complaints really, except the router they supply is a bit shit. 30 day contract, £21 a month inc. £5 discount as my phone contract is with them Thumbs Up

Saying that, the prices you've found are a bit keen!

The moment virgin actually lay their cables by me I'm all up for this. Until then I, and many others, simply don't even have this option. Sad

I really rate Be Broadband. Fantastic customer service and haven't heard a bad word said about them.

I hate SKy with a passion (been with them 3 times) and BT a couple of times. I think Be is actually run by BT but you'd never guess because they actually seem to have competent staff when BT doesn't.

Be are owned by O2. You've obviously not had the repeated DNS routing issues which have plagued others, leading to being unable to reach such internet backwaters as google.co.uk and bbc.co.uk.

The Be forums have plenty of people running away from them at the mo, with rumours of takeovers and the like. Also their "up to 24MB" service is now an "up to 19MB service". I wouldn't bitch seeing as I'm 2.5km from an exchange and only ever got a max of ~424KB/s on a really good day, but this has fallen to an absolute max of ~292KB/s recently.

So yeah, really top ISP

I think you'll probably find the same sort of reviews for the likes of Sky & Orange also. And BT. It's always the bad reviews that are the loudest.

Upload is usually at 1Mbps.

Been with Be for about 6 years.

Get 2mb a second (20mbit) as I only live less than 500ft from the exchange.

Had the odd DNS issues not nothing major.

Yeh exactly, I wrote my reply then realised how cheap the other prices are. How do you get broadband for £10 a month, it was so much more when we were researching...

very few of the supplied routers are any good. i am currently with bt as i have the option of adsl with virgin, sky or bt... went with bt as the bt line was already there so i didnt get an install charge. and the home hub 3 they sent is crap, trying to open and forward ports for more than a few seconds is impossible.

currently using a netgear dgn1000, strangly origianlly supplied with a virgin adsl connection - lol bt line having to be run with a virgin router, thats pretty bad specialy as the woman on the phone told me it was one of the best routers available

I was with Sky for a couple of years but suffered very regular disconnects with a max speed of 2mb. Moved to Talktalk about 18 months ago and it has been a fairly good experience. Good online support with a few issues sorted within a day or two. Speed is up to 4.5mb without any drop outs or slow down. I still struggle to understand why there is a significant difference when it is the same line from the exchange to my house.
