Gut evening.

Just thought I'd run through something that happened today during the latter half of a 60 mile round trip. Basically, stopped on a rural road with some houses about 50 metres away from the side of the road to take some photo's of the bike next to the countryside. For some reason I decided to leave the engine on- worth noting it's a stock gz 125 with original exhaust so hardly 'loud'. Thirty seconds this later this irate bloke comes out f-ing and such demanding that I shut the engine off, "We don't want to listen to you f-ing engine!" etc. I saw his point and felt like a knob so I switched the engine off and told the fella that I didn't mean any harm but there was no need for him to have a go. So he sods off back into his house and I thought that was the end of it. Five minutes later I start the engine and go to pull away- I wasn't revving or anything like that. He comes out again shouting something and sounding like he had a wasp up his arse. I'm not sure if he was expecting me to have a go back but I didn't, I just calmly apologised for causing a problem but reminded him to stop being aggressive etc. as he was now trying to get closer, I think the corpulent old fella was trying to intimidate me. I calmed him down and he started going on about those pesky sport bike riders that come through the road at silly speeds pulling wheelies. I pointed to my 125 cruiser on "L" plates and told him that I was hardly a prime suspect for that. He couldn't seem to stay calm so I just gave him some sarcastic stuff about having a nice evening and that he seemed like a lovely bloke and then rode off.

This is one of these things that keeps running through my head and afterwards, although he was a bit overly aggressive, I sort of feel guilty for acting high and mighty with him when he was probably just at the end of his tether with loud bikes. Any thoughts?

Also, how does everyone else play it when they ride through areas around people's homes? Low revs and engine off if pulled over? I always though I was good with stuff like that as I always keep the revs low and watch the speed in built up areas- clearly I need to learn where the "off" position on the ignition is Embarassed

Fuck that.
Be considerate if people are asleep. In the middle of the day, with houses 50m away?

Come off it. You don't live on an island, people can learn to deal with these things. Bikes are hardly that loud anyway unless you're doing burnouts outside his front gate.

Don't worry about it mate you were definately not in the wrong and it sounds like you did much more than would be expected in trying to calm him down and not being aggresive back etc.
He's the one who should be feeling like a dick.

Britain is a pretty big island. I wouldn't give the incident a second thought. He was obviously a cock, probably a bit weird.

Thanks for the support Thumbs Up I don't know if he saw the L plates and the fact I was young and just thought I would an easy target. At one point I asked him to stop being being so agressive and he said "Oh I can do aggressive". I neglected to tell the tosser that although I'm a lanky git I do amateur boxing and am in the process of training for the infantry reserves, so I too can "do aggressive"- I just don't like the idea of brawling with some middle aged bloke on the side of the road because I let him wind me up.

All part of the joy of biking it I guess Sad Only yesterday some chavs tried to run me off the road and then decided to pull up alongside me to shout abuse. I promptly informed him that I thought he was a big girls blouse for gobbing off from his car and he offered to get out. I was mega angry and I told him he was welcome to so he could sort the obvious problem he has with me. He decided then that he didn't want to get out of his chav-mobile and instead told me that next time he saw me he would knock me off my bike. He should be getting a visit off the police tomorrow morning. This is mad really, two dramas in the space of two days. I love motorbikes and I'm actually looking forward to having to do a 60 mile commute on a bike day in day out starting after the next few weeks. But this is going really far to put me off for good and just buy an old car Sad

Their problem, not yours. If you're not prepared to kick off, just ride off. You can't win an argument with a cretin without getting some splash-back idiocy on you.

As for getting Plod involved, I'd rather invite a vampire to give me a blood test.

Don't feel guilty for acting high and mighty with the old git - you had every right to be there taking a photo.
As for the chav in the car - unfortunately on a 125 with L plates you are seen as a nice easy target for this kind of muppet.
Keep at it because when you pass your test, even though they will never admit it, on a big bike with a nice dark visor, just a long hard stare is sometimes enough to make them wet themselves. Twisted Evil

Get a louder exhaust and go back and do a burn out in his garden Thumbs Up He seems the type of bloke who would spill oil on the roads in an attempt to keep bikers away.

If I knew I could have him Laughing I'd have stood my ground and told him to do one, provided I was on public land and had the right to be there etc. If he got physical I'd lamp him and have my helmetcam to prove he hit/went to hit me first.

If he was megagangster, I'd have rode away then considered a future anonymous revenge attack on his house or property. Smile

He's just another dickhead in the world, happens all the time

An old woman was crossing the road yesterday and the lights when green when she was halfway across, a twat in a car jerked forward at her then looked pissed off and aggressively drove past her so I flipped him off, he pulled up next to me thinking i'd shit myself so I went up to his passenger side window and said "Can I help?"
He was like whats your fuckin' problem?!

I was like you revving your engine at an old woman trying to cross the road, he was like NO I DIDN'T WHATS YOUR PROBLEM, err that's my problem, now drive away

Effing Townie in t Country!
I am cunt-ree la-ad, me... or least oiy thi-ink, thaaz wat theyz sed!
Bludy annoying. They move out to the 'counrty' with some kind of fantacy about a 'Rural Idol' fueled by programs like 'Re-location, Re-location, Re-location', and expect the "Peace & Tranquility" of a Cunstoble oil-painting; 'Yocals' in linen Smocks and clay-pipes, fluffy sheep in fields, and a vicar with a stutter!
I am some-what jaded coming from Stratford-Upon-Avon, which they tried turning into 'Shakespear-Land Plc", and retirement complex for rich Brummies, putting property prices up even faster than Thatcher did, and doubling the rates year on year to price the 'locals' out of the district! AND actually having such experiences as a bloke with broad black-country accent accost me while re-hanging a farm gateway... "Yooz the firma, den? Whz y' smock? Dunt y'av one dem stick tingz? Loik shepuds, av' wadizzit, a CROOOK!" or an american tourist, "Y'Know, Y'am Diss-A-poyntEd! I eXpecteD they're t'bee MOAR Horses! Y'Down-'aav Horses and Cartz no-MOAR... diSS-A-Poynted, ah-Am!"
(I actually replied to that one; "Yes, well I was in The 'states Last year. I expected every-one to wear stetsuns, carry six shooters, and be having gun-fights in the high-street at high-noon..... I was dissapoiunted too... They all seemed to have Automatics these days!")

My retort would, probably have been far less diplomatic; something along the lines off; THIS is a ROAD, THIS, is a ROAD LEGAL motorcycle.... you dont like sound of ROAD TRAFFIC.... dont live by a bludy ROAD! And its the COUNTRYSIDE... it ENT quiet. You think THIS is noisy? I take it you haven't lived through Harvest, or hedging, or sowing? Do they put crow-gun in field?"

Bludy NIMBY, he was, and I would have probably said so!

The irony is; modern country side these people would try and 'preserve'; the little fields with fluffy sheep in them; was actually created at the beginning of the agricultural & Industrial revolutions; the birth of modern, more 'intensive' farming to feed the growing town populations; and these little fields were created by ENCLOSURE acts, hedging in the open field systems, to graze SHEEP, displacing the peasant population, these RUDDY TOWNIES ANCESTORS..... It is NOT a 'Traditional' rural landscape, its a modern intesive agricultural one and has been three hundred ruddy years!

And folk that want to 'preserve' it are showing JUST how little they ruddy know about it!

Fuckem! Rev that mighty marauder!
