Hi all, i know this is not a motorbike tuning website but i know its full of knowledgeable people that would probably be able to help.
I have a 2003 Peugeot xps and i have bought a 80cc big bore, 21mm carb and a aftermarket exhaust.

Would it be worth me buying a aftermarket air filter aswell ? or should i just keep the standard airbox on it ? (if you recommend me buying a airfilter how much should i increase the jet by ?) I have heard that drilling a few holes in my air filter cover would be just as good as upgrading.
I have a 90 main jet in at the moment (on my standard airbox) does that sound about right ?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Lee.
(I forgot the mention that the bike has not been kicked up for the first time yet after installing the 80cc polini bore and 21mm carb. The last time i had it running was when it had stock 50cc bore , 17 or 19mm carb. It is currently in the garage being fixed of an electrical fault.)
Thanks.

An after-market filter would probably give it more grunt - most are designed to give better intake rate, but this could potentially limit the life of the filter (thinner/more delicate?), ensure if you do mess with the air box that it sounds okay and not too bbbrroppppp or tinnng tiinnngg ish. If its a K&N or a Piper-cross this won't happen these are designed for no mess just good flow. You'll know if it sounds bad. Your stock one however would only limit the power you get, and not really be of much tuning benefit. Not much can go wrong with filters just ensure there are no holes and cleanliness once a while. Avoid drilling your air box mate, they are there to protect the filter in the first place, just get like a K&N or something if you want to do anything. Don't bodge it. Make sure it fits well so no crap can get into the chamber.

Thanks alot dude your answer was spot on. I just bought a costly air filter that has "Very good air flow and high filtering effect due to two overlapping foam layers with different porosities". I didnt really want to drill my stock air filter cover, i figured its there for a reason.
Thanks again,
-Lee
