... if in a crash and you're knocked off your bike heading for the asphalt? I'm not sure what the hard knuckles really help in protecting. Suggestions and links are kindly encouraged- cheers! Mr. Green

Wow, I was hoping you were gonna say around the 60-80 mark, definitely wasn't expecting that much.

Can anyone comment on the durability of Wiese gloves?

I have these gloves from Weise. I have got so say they are fantastic gloves. They have good durability and good hard knuckle protection. They cost around £50 and they are also waterproof and has vents for summer riding!

I suggest you try some on in your local bike shops. I tried on 20+ pairs before i was happy with a pair that fitted me well and was in a decent price range. Ended up buying the Alpinestar SP-2's and I love them. They have good feel and not too long in the fingers which I found the problem with most gloves.

If you want the best gloves you'll be wanting some held titans or the cheaper phantoms.

I'm after some of these actually. They are expensive, but they look great.

A common injury from putting your hand out to stop a fall is a busted scaphoid - doesn't really matter what gloves you wear you ain't gonna prevent that.

lol at £160 gloves.

Ive got a pair from the bargain bin in the bike shop.

they be akito mercury mega gloves ha, cost like £15.

warm, comfortable, leather outer, grippy palms, waterproof, warm in winter, cool
in summer, they don't get 'soggy' like a lot of other cheaper cloves.

had an 'off' with them, over the bars hands down first and slid a bit, haven't got a mark on them.

really quite nice, there's more to a pair of gloves than all the fancy gimicky protection this and protection that.

Do you have experience in coming off your bike? If so, think back... what were you thinking at the time...?

My point being, the likelihood that you even go hands down first are minimal, as you rarely let go of the handlebars till the last minute anyway.

Also, your hands might not go anywhere near the tarmac...you might bounce a bit first...

You might also want to check out Blackwolf's post https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=216353&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 and see just how badly his knuckle faired in his accident before you go writing off knuckle protection.

Remember, nothing is cut and dried in any accident. There is no thinking process that occurs whereby you consciously stretch your hands out flat. Exclamation

Best way to approach riding motorbikes is to make damn sure you don't come off...by learning to ride well and don't do silly things. Cool Thumbs Up

Had the alpinestars drystar SR-3 for a while (£40 iirc). Quite warm when dry but (edit) "NOT" really waterproof, so rain = frostbite. No real protection except some gel-type inserts over the knuckles and the velcro is rather bad (wont stay attached anymore).

Just bought the spada enforcer WP for about £55. They look and feel good. Very warm, but obviously haven't REALLY tested them.

I was after the knox ones as they look really good and I love the closure system but read some reviews about seams splitting after a year or so (w/o being in a crash) so think they aint worth the cash.

TL;DR dont get astars SR-3, not convinced by knox, Spada enforcer look promising

It depends on what i'm doing. Commuting, I wear my light HG Balders, freezing weather my HG Pathan 3 fignters. Long distance "dry" my Spada X-streams, wet Spada Enforcers.

For all round wearing i'd say the Enforcers are pretty good for £50.

Sick Sick

Can we get a "Contains nasty ass wound images" for titles please Laughing

When I first came off at a low speed my hands went down first, they were shit cotton gloves as I hadn't got any kit at that point, the gloves tore off my hand completely and my hand was a little sore, but if I was wearing nothing I would have defnitely known about it

Switch forward 2 months and I hit a car in my full kit (mostly cheap textiles)
Hands were fine as they didn't hit the ground as I hit the car first

So yeah, nothing is ever definite in a crash/off!

Ok belly flop the ground right now and tell me your hands don't come out to take the impact Wink

Cheapass summer riding gloves from the local cbt centre £12 - 70mph off, wrist broken (scaphoid cracked a little) but no surface damage whatsoever and that was the only injury I got from the fall. The glove took a beating and fell off towards the end of the tumble but did its job damn well.
