Time is coming to get some new boots but am a little picky on what I want. I have had my Sidi's for a couple of years and still great bar the zips broken, soles leaking...without splashing over £250 (which I don't want to do) what other options are there?
Road use
Race boot as opposed to a touring boot
Full length zip
Adjustable calf to allow for a snug fit if possible but not sure if this is a Sidi only deal?
Not too fussed on colours and toe sliders as never used them in the past.
Thanks in advance. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

How often do you use them?
If every day or very regularly, inc' walking, I'd strongly recommend AGAINST ALPINESTARS!
I have SMX plus boots at the mo, my only boots, and my bike's my only mode of transport so I use them every day.
My first pair were fucked in 11 months. Soles worn out, the ratchet thingy on the top was snapped, the quick lace thing inside the boot was snapped.
They were sent to italy to be fixed (apparently alpinestars don't have any depot's in this country, how shit) but I ended up with a brand new pair, I was happy.
I'm still on these pair, about 16 months.
Soles completely worn out, even the little bolts which hold the heel sliders on are completely ground away.
They leak, there's a hole in the right boot, the zip is broken on the left boot, both the quick lace thingy's on the inside are broken.
My left boot is only done up by the ratchet thingy, and the right by the zip and ratchet thingy, but its got a hole in it.
My old GP plus gloves started unstitching at the seams, so suddenly holes started cropping up all over them.
They're very like racing tyres, once they've got past their optimum, they just disintigrate
Also my RST jacket is warmer without the liner than my alpinestars one with the liner.

I am a big fan of Supertech R's, actually, depending on your sizing I have a brand new set to sell off that will be around your budget, let me know your size if interested.
SMX Plus are ok boots IMO, I have had a couple of pairs and both far exceeded a years decent mileage without falling to bits but with everything you can get duds. I also think that for a goretex boot TCX S-Race is a decent mix of touring fit and race protection, they dont feel as armoured as other boots which is why I say a touring fit.
If you want a bargain, Spada do the Predator which is bit of a Sidi clone, not a bad boot and for the money you can have nearly 3 pairs ____________________ https://bikechatter.net

Check out the Sidi Cobra boots £194. I'm looking at them at the moment as had an off 3 weeks ago and boots wrecked. They've got pretty good side foot protection (which is what i needed on my old boots) and alround good preotection.
Check them out. ____________________ There is always someone worse off than you ! |

Sidi Vertigo since 2005, and Sidi Black Rain since 2007 - both still going strong ... although they could probably both benefit from being re-soled.
and at the other end of the scale Arlen Ness paddock boots, used regularly for less than a year...and...a definate ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N
