Quickest way to limit/reduce/heal a black eye

[Simple]

So I hit the dirt big time on Wednesday night, my eye is still swelling.

The hospital discharged me with no drugs and they hadn't cleaned any of the dirt or big shards of shale from my face

My friend's wife is a nurse so she cleaned me up and added some butterfly stitches to the big cuts. Today my eye is much bigger than before and not bruising yet, we're still on he swelling stage.

so should I do the hot/cold cycle to flush the fluids through quicker via vaso dilation/constriction


should I leave it be and let me skin look after itself?

should I make an appointment at the vet as i'll get propper advice there

Any other suggestions?(please no funny ones, if i smile my face might crack)

use that. it'll help pull the bruise out quicker and start it healing.

It just needs time and if skin is broken don't be putting anything on it.
It gets worse before it gets better in a way as you have a yellowy green stage to look forward too.

I've always heard that cutting just under it helps...no idea if its true or not.

The local takeaway woman suggests you get something hot.

Boiling water on a towel, some fresh boiled rice, even an egg. Then press the burning hot item onto bruise.

In theory its supposed to break down the clotted blood (the bruising) and cause faster healing.

Hot water pressed on with a fist full of cotton wool followed by cold water pressed on with a fist full of cotton wool.

The old wives say a nice steak pressed against it should do the trick, then you can eat the dressing when you're finished.

i had all my wisdom teeth out under a general as they were all impacted and there was a bit of jaw cracking type things on both sides to get them out. I had stitches etc too so when i went home my face and neck swelled up a goodun and i had bruising from my hairline to my collarbone on both sides. I looked right purty

Ibuprofen really helped with the swelling. I don't think it reduced it physically by much, if at all, but it certainly helped take that thumping, bulbous, don't-fucking-touch-me-type feeling out of it.

The bruising i just left to run it's course and tried to stay in as much as possible while i looked like someone had taken a bat to the elephant man

It will heal in its own sweet time. Anything that you do will not make a great deal of difference.

You have blood that is leaking into the injured area. Vasoconstriction/dilation only works if the blood is still in the blood vessels.. yours has leaked into the interstitial space. You need to wait till it can be reabsorbed.

Unless you're getting married or something, make the most of looking hard and regaling others with your tales of heroism...

I use Hirudoid cream for my bruises. It's cheaper than Arnica, and doesn't have silly things like lactose in it...and can be bought direct over the counter at a pharmacist.

But I might be tempted to do a witch-hazel/tea tree mix, on cotton wool and just leave it on the bruise for a while (whilst laying down).

Dont know a fast way, but last time I got a black eye it was a bad one and was closing up nicely. I spent the night keeping it wet & warm with tissues and it seemed to stop the swelling and bring the bruising out very well by the next day. I looked a picture but I could still see

12 days later and it's pretty much gone now. Still bruised to touch but doesn't look too bad and my cheek bone is back.
