Hi Guys

I've recently purchased a CB250. I've noticed that the balance pipe on the exhaust has 2 factory made ventilation holes. Are both of them necessary? Perhaps i could seal one and leave the one at the lowest point of the pipe for condensation drainage purposes.
I find the tone of the exhaust rather annoying, these holes give the impression of a blowing exhaust, esp at lower revs.

I am also considering a aftermarket exhaust 2 into 1, perhaps a Motad. I've seen them for around the £215 mark. Is it worth doing for the weight reduction? I would 'archive' the existing exhaust - which is in good condition. The left hand exhaust has been renewed with a brand new Honda Original part after the balance pipe was found to be quite rotten and was replaced via a warranty claim. That was when i noticed the 2 ventilation holes, i've read that this was something Honda done later on, presumably to try to prevent the balance pipes rotting (so quickly).

Cheers !

Plug the holes.
As to weight saving, it won't make any real difference to performance, but you will get a better sound and of course you will preserve the more expensive original pipes.

The balance pipe tends to be what goes first on these.
Mine went about 3 years / 20k miles ago.
I spliced in some donor sections of spare triumph exhaust pipe from work, and its been fine since.

The Motad system is the one most people go to when the Honda one fails. It seems OK.

The drain holes serve a purpose - leave them.

I should have asked - which version of CB250? Superdream or Nighthawk? If a Nighthawk, you should join the Yahoo group:

- An excellent source of useful info.

One like this, year is 2002, CB250Y (as i understand), although i note that E crops up from time to time, the honda handbook has a wiring diagram that states CB250E.
