 Posted: 20:54 - 05 May 2012 Post subject: So, I want a new bike... |
 |
|
Hi guys! Not been on here in a long time! Long story short, I bought a Yamaha YZF R125 in 2010 and have loved every minute of it, not craving any more power and enjoying what it can offer.
That is until I bought a CAR, a Ford Puma, and now that's my fun vehicle. It shouldn't be like that. I want my bike to be a fun vehicle, so now my R125 is sitting there and I've been offered £2000 for it at the local Yamaha dealer (wasn't even expecting this because it's got some fairing damage).
So, if I sell it I'll have £2000 - £2500 to spend on a decent third bike. I really wanted to get an R6, but I need a more forgiving bike. On the other hand, I wanted a Ninja 250, but I don't know if it would have the fun factor attributed to the acceleration like my Ford Puma gives.
So here's my dilemma.. I want something nippy, but also safe and forgiving. It doesn't have to be supersports, just sporty, but I want something that has the same acceleration (if not a little bit more) than my car.
I have been sensible with the 125cc motorcycle and now I want the next step up. So here I am trying to be sensible and taking all genuine advice on the subject on-board.
R6 and CBR 600 look gorgeous, but from what I've heard they're not forgiving so they're off the cards. I understand that it's up to the rider not the bike etc etc so none of that please, just friendly advice on which bike around the 2k mark that have the forgiving property would be great. Thank you experienced riders! ____________________ Left the forum. |

How are you possibly wanting more power than a puma, I mean, come on, that's fast
But seriously, my bike will apparently do 60 in 3.1 seconds (could be wrong), and it's only a 600!
Seriously get anything 500+ and you'll be blown away. ____________________ Current bike: ZX6R J1

Is this a joke? Ford Puma's are slow compared to most bikes. Get yourself a CBR for something a little bit forgiving but lots of fun, an SV for more forgiving but less fun, or an ER5 for safe as fuck but still faster than your Puma.
Or
Just buy a Ninja and have 200% more fun, and feel more alive than ever before . ____________________ Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. |

Another vote for the CBR600F, very forgiving yet absolutely mental when you pin it.
Or you could go for the slightly more docile Bandit/Hornet or even more still into the 500 commuters. ____________________ Willson - "If you go out on that CBR600 in the winter, you're going to do more miles on your side than on your wheels."

To be honest if all the OP is after is quick acceleration then you will find that a gpz500 has a regularly claimed 0-60 time of less than 4 seconds and will do more mpg than a sports 600 and will be easier and cheaper to maintain.
I would recommend a cbr600 as it give more of an introduction to sportsbikes in general, the handeling, braking, power delivery, riding position etc.... than a gpz could ever manage, for somebody who aspired to ride an R6, a sports/sports-touring 600 is definetly the way to go ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

Errr, I've driven a few Pumas, they're not fast...at all. They're quite fun to drive, handling is pretty good for what it is.
Standard 1.7 is more like 9,2 secs to 60:

Snowie was checking specs of the SV650 last night.
Even the earlier carbed models can drop the quarter mile in under 12 seconds with a terminal nudging 120mph.
I THINK that ought to make one just a TAD more interesting than a Ford Puma!
cheap, chearful, forgiving, alrounder, without the expense, complexity or weight of a 'four', and a good first big-bike to cut teeth on. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
