I'm not a big fan of the shock tactics used in these type of adverts (I don't donate to these charities either), but often that's not really the decision that people make in third world countries.
In countries where child labour is rampant and infant mortality is high, people often have to have kids just to get by (the kids work to feed and clothe the whole family). It's about incentives - we see the same in Britain with the whole 'have kids to get a council house' thing. Morals come after basic needs.
They also suffer from ridiculously low levels of education. Even countries we think of as 'modern' like South Africa have guys like Jacob Zuma who seem to think having sex with virgins can cure AIDS.
I'm all for personal responsibility but you have to give people a platform to launch themselves from first. Look at feral children for an example - stick a rich Western family's newborn in the woods, presume it lives to adulthood, and then tell me it had the 'chance' to be a rocket scientist, if only it worked hard enough.
There's a reason fertility goes down with education.
| Quote: | I know that we would struggle with another child, so we're not having anymore. Simple, innit. |
Because for people like me and you, that is true. For some it's not, or if it is they don't understand. |

Edgey explains it far more eloquently then me but it is my understanding that our society is based on the exploitation of countries such as Africa. And as long as we are bound by the present model, i.e. wealth, greed, status, power and all the other seemingly important shite, then things like this will always be present. |
Exactly the way I see it.
It's a shame, but it's how our society functions.
People complain about the higher orders (politicians, bankers, whatever you care to name) 'exploiting' the common man, and completely ignore the fact that we do exactly the same to those below us (the easy example is the Chinese factory worker, but there are far more available).
Not saying I'd do anything to change it, or that I'd have any idea how to improve the world, but I think it's good to accept that on some level we are all sociopaths, some just don't realise it. |

I'd pay £2 a month to get adverts off my screen.
Nah, I still probably wouldn't. ____________________ 07' Honda Hornet now full powaah! My guide on performing an oil change! |

Is it not true the poorest countries have the highest birth rate?
That and india, they're like rabbits
your £2 a month could buy this poor chief executive his second jet, the poor guy could only afford one this year ____________________ Fzr-600 1999 |

Well, that's obvious.
| Quote: | i didnt say more children = more sick children although the thinner the resources the more likely that outcome will be.. |
Sure, but you're assuming that more children = thinner resources.
Mum stays at home and looks after the babies/newborns. The older kids go out to work. Babies eat tiny amounts of food so the only 'resource' to worry about is whether or not mum has time for everyone.
| Quote: | my example is that it makes more sense to me to have perhaps a couple of kids and give them the care/food to raise them well rather than stretching your resources across 5+ and just hoping they dont all die. |
What's better, 3 kids working to feed a family of 6, or 5 kids working to feed a family of 8?
Also, even if we take the premise less children = easier to care for = more efficient - what happens if one dies due to disease anyway? Now you have a tiny family.

Yes, because the richer a country gets, the more 'Westernised' it becomes, child labour starts to be outlawed, people tend to want shiny gizmos and careers instead of families, etc.
Even within countries there is a correlation between education and birth rate. The more educated a person is, the less children they are likely to have. |

As Doug Stanhope says, ‘There’s no money in cunt cancer’
Doesn’t look so flashy on a tee shirt does it, that’s not what people want to jog for.
Saving brown kids it’s quite fashionable, everyone over here, over spending and over eating, likes to think they’re doing something. We’ve always increased the numbers of African people by saving thousands of them, thousands turn into millions and we’ve basically achieved indirect genocide. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.
