Yeah this spam from me, but seriously I'm doing you a favour.

Amazon are doing an 25% off a lot of shoes using the code MAYDAY25.

These happen to be some of the most comfortable trainers you will ever wear the soles have something like memory foam and for £30 are a bargin. There are a fair few style available I just ordered 2 more pairs. Thumbs Up

Just ordered a pair. I can always send them back if I don't like them. Also, if they're not as comfortable as you reckon, I can always shove them up your arse at the BCFBBQ!

Yeah for good reason. They are fucking vile and secondly you're paying £5 for a trainer and £45 for a pair of nike ticks.

Skate slippers aren't much better.

I don't really like trainers for everyday wear. Always found they wear out quickly and all of the details on the outside generally make them a bugger to clean.

For general sports/exercise etc, sure, but a good pair of leather shoes will do me for the rest of the year. Bit of water on a rag, quick polish, good as new.

Addidas Samba, blue suede not the black leathers ones are the exception to that rule, after spending most of my life in boots, since I bought a pair of them I've lived in them, comfy as fuck and easy to clean... Thumbs Up

One of my favourite lessons is on the Nike tick it was developed by Carolyn Davidson and she was paid $35 for it. I link it to triumphant soviet and fascist art of the 30s and 40s.

Yeah I've got a few Jordans, some really rare ones too.. and about 5 pairs of air max 1s Smile Used to work in a trainer shop haha, got great discount and developed a great knowledge of rare trainers and such!

Well vile is opinion and I have no qualms with that; and they are £90 Laughing ...

But you're not paying for the Nike ticks are you, you're paying for the entire shoe. The development (considering when it came out in 1987 it was THE olympic running shoe), the style - it's a retro. Don't tell me you don't like retro stuff. You're paying for the comfort, which believe me it is comfortable. You could apply the "you're paying for the Nike tick" logic to pretty much anything in life and I fucking hate that little remark because it comes from people who think "fuck da sysdemz I do not payz brandz", what do you spend your money on then? A motorbike? Why not buy a shithouse 1980 bike then because anything else and you're "paying for the GSX-R" logo. If you argue that you pay for the performance, well using the same logic an Air Max 1 "performs" better than a £5 ASDA shoe, so the same logic applies.

Not that I'm trying to convince you to start wearing Nikes, or telling you my opinion is better than yours or whatever, I'm simply saying don't act on your high horse looking down upon someone, because they are 'stupidly' paying for the logo. It's not.

I stand corrected, you're paying £85 for the nike ticks.

25 years of research and development? They look the same as the pair of air max I had when I was 14. Its a pair of trainers, not a fusion reactor, how much scope for development do you think their is for a running shoe Laughing

Considering that Nike really can produce air max trainers for around £5, what exactly do you think you're paying for? Its certainly not a superior piece of footwear. All the 'value' of a Nike product is in the brand created through advertising. If that makes you feel good then crack on, but stop fooling yourself its for any other reason.

I don't own any trainers. I do have a pair of branded leather boots, which I have had for 5 years and cost the same as a well known plastic running shoe.

I just think at 25 I'm a bit beyond wearing 'retro' trainers that someone has vomited a rainbow on Smile

If it works for you I suppose.

T-shirts, tracksuits and trainers can stay in the gym IMO.

I work as a driver, I wear office based shiney black shoes 6 days a week for averaging 50 hours, I wear trainers in my time 'off' unless I'm looking smart out in my own time then it's less flashy brown office based shoes, I probably wear trainers for about 6 hours a week.

I'm not spending 80quid at that rate and I don't need a gym membership given what I do - but I need to be comfortable.

Trainers aren't gym wear, if anything they're social wear that double as gym-wear.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying noone should wear trainers or anything, just that I don't wear them as my standard 'day to day footwear'.

Quote:

Gym was probably a bad word to use.

If I'm walking down to the shops or picking up something from the PO etc, it's shirt and shoes. If I'm off for a run or working on the bike in the garden, it's t shirt and trainers. Sounds like I play musical chairs with shoes, but then after a run your shoes are going to be sweaty anyway, I wouldn't want to keep them on.

Something like this, not formal shoes you'd wear with a suit. (Not as tarty as these though, one colour). Comfy as, can still run in them fine, you just wouldn't if you were setting out to do it.
https://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00rMwacKzGYkiT/Casual-Leather-Shoes-TW10152M-1-.jpg

Dunno. Walking about town, I'd rather look slightly unusual than wear the same as the local chav brigade. Maybe I'm actually a woman and just haven't realised it yet.

It's all a bit moot anyway, when I had my CG most of the time I'd be out in boots, probably turn to the same when I get another bike.

I dont see why people wouldnt wear trainers if they where just going to the shops. There comfier than shoes and they do the job and you dont have to worry about cleaning them all the time.

Shoes are just as comfy as trainers? Well, with the exception of running shoes (if you class those as trainers), but they wear out too quickly to use every day.

I don't understand the cleaning thing, surely you don't have to clean either, it's just easier to clean shoes, trainers often have daft designs on the side with loads of nooks and crannies.

The ones in the first post especially, first time that suede type stuff touches mud it's going to look trashed.

For going to the shop I'd agree it doesn't really matter though. Just a style thing. It's a bit like saying, why wear a red t shirt instead of a blue one when you go to the shops. Cause I don't like blue t shirts, Razz

They probably are, like I said, these are from 1987.

I don't know, why don't we ask Usain Bolt if he doesn't mind what he wears in the Olympics? Not that I wear them for the 100m sprint.

It's probably closer to £1 mate... and yes, I do value them. The pairs I own are all extremely rare, I'm talking 1 of 500, not something you're going to see on your local chav. Compare it to say, someone saying your MV Augusta is the same as some chav's R6.

I'm no fool to the fact that I may be a sucker to Nike branding, but lets be honest they've branded there stuff well enough over the years to be the number one sports brand in the world?

Quote:

Why do you wear boots? Because they are comfy? Because you like the image? Because they last for ages?

Check for me on all three accounts, all my air maxes are 2 years old or older, and I bet, in no worse condition than your boots. Mine get worn pretty much every day, too.

Quote:

That's completely fair enough and like I said, I am not trying to convince anyone to buy Nikes, but you were the one who threw assumptions around! Smile

Also, you don't have to have 'rainbow' versions..
