Started dating a girl about a month ago - she lives in Bradford, I'm in stoke so although I can get up to her easy enough, it's enough distance that we aren't just going to be 'popping round' because we're bored. So, I've been up to her the last two weekends, have train tickets booked to go again this weekend, and we've bought (but not yet booked) a camping weekend on Groupon just cos it was only £20. She also invited me on holiday with her in August - only to Pontins with her little girl, but that's actually just the kind of thing I'd enjoy and I really appreciated the gesture, especially since her daughter is awesome.
Anyway, last night I got this off her out of the blue:
| Quote: | I'm no good at talking but the more time we spend together the more i realise i am not over <daughters> dad. I need more time to sort my head out x i do like you still but im not ready. Sorry don't be cross doesn't mean we are done for good i just need time. |
We texted for a bit after, and she's adamant that she likes me, she just needs time. Example:
| Quote: | Im sorry, i think this month is just extra hard with the wedding anniversary plus him moving in with his new gf. no matter what we will definitely stay in touch because one day i will be ready xx" |
My personal instinct is this: Needing a bit of time is fine, but "one day i will be ready" sounds a bit like I'm expected to just hang around indefinitely, and as much as she may have turned me into a loved up teenager for the last month or so, I'm too old for that shit.
I'm away for work next week anyway, so I've arranged for a friend to watch the house and look after the cats from Friday onwards. So I'm gonna not call or text until Wednesday (when I will be meeting my friend for a drink anyway) at which point I'll get in touch and ask whether she wants me to visit this weekend or not, because I obviously need to finalise housesitting plans.
As it goes, next weekend would be the last weekend I'd see her until 9th June anyway. So even if I go this weekend she's got a clear 3 weeks to 'sort her head out.' I'm going to be working, so I won't be out socialising or doing anything where I have a chance of meeting anyone else anyway, so I don't see the harm in giving her the time - she's 4 months out of an 8 year relationship so I can understand the headfuck element, but really we should be looking at a few days to figure out "do i want to move on or not?" - if it moves into weeks, then the answer is clearly "not"
When I see her in June, it's a one day thing in a neutral location (Download festival), so I'm going to meet with her then, and the events of that weekend will determine what happens next - but if she still "needs time" it's going to be a case of "choose me or lose me"

As you're reading this, she's being shagged up the industrial estate by a bloke called Denzil in the back of his Civic.
You've been dumped, get over it and move on.
[UPDATE] Although she will of course call you when she needs to borrow money, have some furniture moved, or her daughter minded while she goes off on a shagathon weekend with Denzil. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

She doesn't fancy you and she's trying to finish with you nicely by saying "it's not you, it's me".
Wish her all the best and get on with your life, she doesn't want you and you don't need her. ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

| tbourner wrote: | Yeah sounds like you need to assume it's over, and just carry on. If you're still in touch and she says to come over/meet up then go for it, but otherwise just move on and don't go chasing.
I know someone in the other position, with a guy for 8 years, got married with a 2 year old kid. They split up after a year married. She's been with a couple of blokes since, mostly nobbers, but still brings up the ex quite a lot, saying things like she made a mistake and realises what a great guy he was - she doesn't want to get back together with him but even after 10 months it's still in her mind and she has trouble 'being' with anyone else seriously. If this girl likes you and you're not a nobber, I'd think she's not trying to get rid but really IS just needing some time - up to you if you're willing to wait for/support her I suppose? |
Well this is the thing. I do like her a lot, I want to be there for her and support her, and she has given me fair warning that the whole divorce thing (still in progress) is stressful as hell, and she will probably have her self-destructive moments where she will try to push me away. I can understand that, and if this is just a headfuck that she needs a day or two to get her head around, fine. However, if the days turn to weeks, we start to move from 'temporary headfuck' into 'actually not ready to move on' territory, and I'm not up to hanging around forever in case she decides she's ready for me. ____________________ Current Bikes: 1983 Honda VF400FD / 2003 Honda VT750 Shadow

Well, whether it's a sad reflection on society at large or not, it appears I have an answer. I logged into Facebook tonight and noticed my status was "in a relationship" rather than "in a relationship with...". Also, she's no longer in my friend list, and when I type her name, she appears in the autocomplete list, but gives page not found when you click her - which happens if you're blocked, but not if someone deletes their profile - a deleted profile just doesn't show in the autocomplete list.
So now I know where i stand. Honestly would have been nice, but hey, i got the message i guess. ____________________ Current Bikes: 1983 Honda VF400FD / 2003 Honda VT750 Shadow

Spineless bint, forget her and if you see her in the street completely blank her.
Unfortunately you were the rebound guy merely to boost her ego, its not a reflection on you so don't be down about it . ____________________ aprilia 125 Af1 Futura >> Suzuki gsxr 600 srad >> J1 zx6r >> cbr 600rr >> Speed Triple |

Timbstoke, it is clear that you really need to be talking about this issue with young lady.
Getting others to discuss it is a risky move because it will sway you in and out of different directions yourself and just confuse and cloud the issue.
Talk to the poor lassie if you are willing to help. ____________________ Adios to Bandit and Ninja. Hello VFR. |
