Ive been living in rented accomdation now for 6 months.

Before i moved in it was a completely refurbished flat

anyway in the last few weeks ive noticed , what i can gather from abit of googling, is moth lavae all coming from under the carpet

I was just wondering do any of you know whether I'd stand a chance getting the landlord to deal with this?

It mentions nothing in my contract through the estate agent and the fact its coming from under the carpet It cant of been me! I havnt lifted the carpet!

The other thing I fear is I have 3 pet rats and 1 chinchilla and I know for a fact they will go "wellllllllllllllllllllllllll, its those animals theyve attracted them aint they your problem"

I know for a fact its not them! Me and my girlfriend clean them out twice a week and bath the rats in the sink once a week ( in low level water which is luke warm before im accussed of animal cruelty)!

Just any advice you guys could offer would be much appreciated

worst case, move the pets to friends/family, call estate agent and get it sorted, get the pets back

Moths are attracted to food, urine and faeces on carpets and will lay their eggs in the pile. I'm not suggesting for a second that your rodents are pissing and leaving their droppings on the floor but something is.

Keep an eye on your missus.

love it Razz

you reckon it could be the rat food?

we have taken it all out of bags and stored in sealable plastic boxs

Ive smothered all the affected areas 2/3 times with spray now to deter them but doesnt seem to be working however maybe reducing the numbers

I might try and get a good picture of the situation and either upload it here and possible send to the estate agents

Just read the link you put up according to this IT IS the landlords responsibility unless he can prove otherwise of course

So caterpillars then? Confused

Unusual for them to be in the house, clothes moths are fairly rare in this country now. You could try putting some mothballs down at the edges of the carpets for a fr#ew weeks, they don't smell so good but might get rid of them.

Just be thankful you don't have ants cos they are a bugger to get rid of.......

Few years ago me and the ex went away for a week and came back to find the living room crawling with ants... I just hoovered most of them up, found where they were coming in and slapped some silicone seal in all the gaps, then used a strong bleach mix on the stragglers. Never had a single problem after that Thumbs Up

The ant-bait stuff is good. Nothing like a bit of chemical warfare to sort them out! I had a bit of an infestation, put a box down yesterday and they've all disappeared.

Completely useless with moths, obviously!

Clothes moths are making a huge comeback I know the Mail is not a real news source but I am tired out after Mallory with my Y8s

You need to get your landlord involved, it is not your animals (unless you have a sheep as Clothes Moth eat wool) that are attracting them.

I think moths are the least of your problem if you have rats.

In 1945, Professor C.P. Richter did a study to see what exactly attracted rats to humans. He gave a group of rats access to a large quantity of blood, and found that within 24 hours they had consumed it all, even though it was four times as much "food" as they would normally eat in a day. Richter's actual, word for word scientific conclusion: "[Rats can develop] a real craving for fresh human blood."

lol ah a fun read

those rats pictures the worst you get from them is the beige ones comes up and licks your hand with his tounge never nipped

now i know your gonna make a comment like " see hes licking you cause he wants to see if theres any blood on you or softening your skin up for a bite"

i was biten by one of the older rats a while ago that hurt!

it dragged its top teeth accross my finger left a nice scar...

Rats are alright. The only thing that creeps me out about them is that when food supplies run short they will breed a litter just to have a food source, i.e. their own kittens..

All things considered I'd rather have a couple of Degus.

Probably a little from column A and a little from column B. They need a lot of stimuli but they're very affectionate too. They'd probably do better in a big tank with lots of jumping, burrowing and chewing opportunities than in a barred cage and they definitely need company.

Nice one Thumbs Up

Devote some time to them when they're young and the experts say that you should find them really trainable.

I'd love a pair, tbh, but we already devote enough space to our gecko. I'm not sure her indoors would appreciate another tank in the living room.

That doesn't make sense. It would be a net loss of energy carrying a litter to term requires a lot of energy. Eating is not particularly efficient.

More likely they eat their young if food is short - but breeding in order to eat would be massively inneficient.
