The sensors and tech required to make it work at all is madness. Laser scanners don't work too great in the rain either so it has quite some way to come before it's truely useful and fully capable. I think self drive as an optional extra will arrive just in time for the oil to run out

I think these are a fantastic idea, as long as you can turn it off when you want to.

It would massively reduce congestion on the motorways, and when I want to drive the 4 1/2 hours the length of the country on boring motorways, just whack on the autodrive and do something else.

The best thing is that for 95% of the population the computer would driver better than the human. You want fucktards off the road? Don't want any more SMIDSY's - this is the solution.

Personally I can't wait. I reckon these will be mainstream before 2030.

It's only a matter of time before they got hacked or something, a virus in your car that drives you to a warehouse full of muggers

Being able to turn it off is a good idea, you could stick it on if you're tired or on the motorway.

Infact I could see these working if everyone had one, else it wouldnt. They could all speak to each other to avoid collisions

Many, many years but I can see it already. Hackers getting into the software and sending people miles away on random journeys, unable to stop or get out
